Ok, so basically, here's what I have right now:

ProCo Ratt
Prescription Electronics "expirience" fuzz
Boss Distortion/Feedbacker (like a DS-1)

I've been tempted to drop some coin on a silver EH Big Muff, but I've been told that the PE sounds pretty similar, so it sort of seems like a waste.

I've also been considering the Zvex Fuzz Factory and the Fender Bender, though I haven't been able to try either of these out yet.

I'm open to any type of distortion - fuzz, overdrive, 'standard' distortion - ultimately, I'm looking for the most crazy, noisy, and compressed/thick (but bright?) sort of thing I can find. Recommendations?

I haen't read this thread, but i lucked out with a pedal made by Smart People Factory called the Red Threat. I bought it cause it had a sickle and hammer on it, it turned out to be a crucial part of our guitar setup. It makes the most absurdly violent feedback ever.

Well, I hope it doesn't break, because their customer service is ASS.
All the cute Dmitri Martin website graphics and "har har we're just some dudes in a garage" marketing aside, they are building "boutique" gear that costs a lot. After repeated attempts to get help with an issue I was having, I wrote a kind of nasty letter to them. They responded with something like "sorry man, we're a small company."
What, so you can't answer an inquiry email when your shit breaks? After 3 attempts over 2 months? Lame excuse.
So I reiterated what my broken box was doing.
No response.

To top it off, they don't list a phone number, like all of the other companies (or they give it to you by email if you have an issue).

My Menatone distortion messed up once, I called, the owner answered and helped me fix the issue over the phone.
My Crowther Hotcake had a ground issue. Paul emailed me with an apology (even though I bought the 6 year old unit used), and told me how to fix it.
My Seymour Duncan Boost had a bad switch. They head of marketing called me and sent out a new one. Told me to keep the old one if I wanted to fix it, but said if I sent it back they would study it for quality control.
My Destination Rotation Leslie simulator wasn't "spinning" as fast as I wanted it to. I called, the owner walked me through the adjustment. Before we hung up, he said to please call with any other questions, and he sincerely thanked me for buying it.

I would deal with any of these companies again. I feel I got my money's worth. I don't expect this out of Boss, because they operate on a different level.
(and their stuff doesn't break anyway - it's solid)

Now, why the people at Dumb People Factory can't get this simple customer service aspect which is part of, you know running a business, I'll never know. Lord knows I gave them enough chances. I gave the Ego Boost to a friend and sold the Green Line Overdrive basically out of protest. I never wanted to answer the question "what overdrive do you use" with "the SPF one."

I read an article once that was basically stating that the tone and grit of your distortion has a lot to do with EQ - on the way in and the way out, so Akai released the G-Drive:

You adjust the EQ either side of the circuitry to suit yourself. If you look at the picture, you can see red markings next to the frequency sliders - these are suggested 'presets' if you like - for crunch, fuzz, blues etc.

I don't think they make them anymore though, have to go to ebay.
