Weasel Walter does seem a bit too self-absorbed in that post. It's almost as though he were crafting a persona for himself, for the media and for his fans, instead of just being himself and making the damn music.

Weasel, I think your music is often great, especially that recent record, The Void.

Just take it easier on the whole "opining" thing.

I admit to not paying attention to a lot of bands, 'scenes', etc, but two things in this thread have me confused:

1- oxes/arab on radar scam? I actually had a discussion just today about this in relation to the oxes/old navy lawsuit going on. my friend seemed convinced that the arab on radar thing was not only not a scam, but bandmembers had come to blows over it. did he/I miss something?

2- "weasel walter?" seriously? no, SERIOUSLY?

Of course. Surely no mature artist would waste time scouring the internet for references to himself, or responding to them at length.

Well before the Golden Age of Maturity we now enjoy, a mutual ex-friend was in a band (not the Luttenbachers) with Weasel Walter, and liked to call him "Weas-El, Son Of Jor-El," to WW's annoyance. My own main memory of Weasel is remarking to him that I owned the same vintage Gang of Four t-shirt that he was wearing, to which he snapped "IT'S ONLY A T-SHIRT!", as if I had been insisting otherwise.

I thought the Luttenbachers were pretty cool, but I haven't kept up. That other band was good fun, for a while -- they had a joke website with a bit about someone's "twelve-tone serialist composition entitled 'Don't Fuck With Me, You Bitch,'" which I was later informed was Weasel's. I laughed.

I never knew about the Old Navy thing.
As far as that Oxes/Arab On Radar "split" goes, I think it was only Skin Graft that was really pissed off about it.

Weasel Walter is the Steve Albini of the 1990's. Steve Albini is the Steve Albini of the 1980's. I'm the Don Rickles of the 2000's. No-wave is the post-rock of the 70's. Post-rock is the smooth-jazz of the 2000's. Math-rock is the prog-rock of the 20's. Southern-rock is the country of the 2000's. Free-jazz is the death metal of the 1400's. My penis drips gravy during the summer months. Who's that knocking at my door? Why, it's Dunkin' Donut and his Puppet Band! Play a song for me that goes "doo doo doo do dud do." That's some hep shit you play. I first heard about you in the new issue of Forced Exposure where Lydia Lunch gets eaten out by Jon Spencer while Weasel Walter and Steve Albini lick her nipples.

Seriously, never hit a man who wears glasses. A fight between Weasel Walter and Steve Albini would be boring. They both proudly wear glasses.

Wow.

Did you have a few ribs removed or have you always been able to do that?

He was just being forward and honest. Some people are ok with their imperfections and excited about the things they do well. I looked up this thread after a conversation with him the other night. We talked about this for a minute and he said almost the exact same thing.

I can't fault someone for laying everything on the line like that. Love it or leave it, I guess. I'll just listen to xbxrx and not say a bad thing about the man.
