New EA sendspace thread

While this thread has led me to a ton of great things I'd not otherwise have found, we all know that it's popular outside of this forum too, as if it was linked on pitchfork or something.
I'm not sure how I should feel about that. Doesn't it create 'problems' for the people who pay for their sendspace privileges?
Can a thread like this be too popular? I can think of more reasons for locking it than keeping it open.
I've downloaded a few albums and demos from this thread by people who're your friends who I'd otherwise never have heard of, and I've enjoyed them. That has to be worth something right?

Whatever way it goes, it HAS been a good run, and there ARE other ways for us to share music. Maybe something like Pasta's blog but with multiple contributors.

For the record, I have never heard of Maggot Brain. I'll be checking it out. It's possible I'll become a huge fan and seek the album out. You all seem to think it's worth it.
How long would it have been before I heard of it without this thread?
What if this thread was the ONLY way that I discovered music and without it I managed to go my whole life without hearing about Maggot Brain?

I'll continue to use this thread until it's eventual death, and when that day comes I'll just start intensely soulseeking every band namedropped on this forum again. So while the locking of this thread won't stop us from downloading the things that'd get posted in here, it sure is nice and convenient to have it all in one place.

This thread is an amazing piece of work. We can share music with one another, talk endlessly about music 95% of people don't get, why the hell should it get locked?

Out of the hundreds of albums that have been posted, only a few handfuls of are easily found. So what if Maggot Brain got posted? It doesn't mean this thread will turn into a pitchfork/MTV subsidiary. Minotaur was kind enough to upload it, and it's not something that should start a fucking riot.

I might get pissed even more, but I have a good suspicion that even the nay-sayers have grabbed stuff from here, too. As long as we don't dive in mindlessly, and start sharing stuff like "Love & Theft", this place will be fine.

Because he has so many posts? What the hell does that matter?

The forum used to be much smaller...and made mostly of people who knew each other...were friends in real life.

McGarvey has invited forum members to his home...posts here in the first place (therefore I assume that he is a good guy).

I'm much different on this forum (and on the internet in general) than I am in real life.

Here, I come off like a bit of a crazy man (oh well)...in real life I'm quiet, thoughtful.

When you can't see how people are going to physically react to the things you say, it makes for a much different environment.

To play devil's advocate: people here can recommend albums without uploading them. Someone could post that Maggot Brain is a great album, and you could listen to samples of it at the iTunes store.

IMHO, it's not more or less ethical to upload a well known album vs. an obscure one. It does seem more fair to me to upload an album that's out of print.

alrighty, not that we need another pussy-whipped asshole like myself weighing in, but i don't touch on this much so today i'm gonna:

1) minotaur, your one post regarding the new culture, generation gap, change of how labels are working, etc... was nothing short of beautiful and eloquent. i enjoyed that read. thanks.

2) not only was it well written, it was true and (for non-believers) thought provoking. you could fight downloading all you want, but it's gonna happen.

3) to mcgarvey who started this whole mess, chill dude. there are a shit-load of people who illegally download music for all the wrong reasons. however, i don't think any of those people are represented at electrical. we have a love for music and i think it's been demonstrated time and time again how we, as an esoteric subculture, download lots of stuff, but if something really strikes our fancy we will be happy to purchase the disc or at least merch from that artist, or go to a show, etc.

4) also to mcgarvey, you got your panties in a twist about the maggot brain post, but i didn't hear you complain about eddie money not getting some royalty action. i just saw that record at best buy.

so yeah, that's it. the spirit of the thread is great. speaking to the record in question, i've never heard the thing. never been a big clinton fan. but now that i see i could download it, i'll give it a listen. and if i like it maybe i'll buy it or some other clinton stuff. that's how i roll, and that's how i'm sure others here work too.

thanks everyone for you continued generosity with this thread, i especially owe a big hug or something to whoever put that monroe mustang stuff up. take care y'all!

In any case, I uploaded another ten albums a few days ago...here's some of them...I dedicate a lot of them to kerble since he was complaining about "dude rock" earlier (I didn't upload them with you in mind, Faiz...keep dreaming).

1 ) It's not really a jazz album exactly...but it's my favorite jazz man all by his lonesome. Quirky...occasionally straight-up beautiful and moving piano music as could only be played by the late, great Thelonious Monk:

this album is one of my favourites. I've actually re-bought it. Monk has a terrific sense of humor. If you haven't, really check this one out.

A+
