3Aside from the "skits", 'Stankonia' is a pretty darn good record. Don't know much about their earlier work but the new song is pretty cool, too.

4"Hey Ya" is probably the best pop song that has come out in the last 9 years.

5I would go even further to say that it's probably the first original thing to come out on pop radio since Nirvana.

6i'd listen to more funkadelic & parliament etc. before i started calling outkast (totally) original..... there sure is a precedent for what they do, you know.
but i grew up on funkadelic. so whatever.
and i hope this outkast double-solo-deal isn't the preamble to a breakup.
definitely not crap.
brad, why arent' they a band? just curious. i like reading your replies. so let's have it.

they are not cut from whole cloth, it's true
but it's the only thing i've ever heard in my life that really, really sounds like it's coming off the sly stone launching pad. prince has gotten there on occasion, but the last two outkast records have many many 'what the...how did they...' moments of the sort that sly managed on a regular basis.
there are so many great lines on the new record. the andre ones are more obvious, but digging into the big boi stuff yields as much good material. it's just more dense, is all.
>>I would go even further to say that it's probably the first original thing to come out on pop radio since Nirvana.
as noted re originality, but as someone else i know pointed out, it's easily the best number one album of the last ten years, a LOT longer if like me you were not particularly captivated by _nevermind_
same person pointed out that the new outkast record went to number one, dropped to number six over the course of a few weeks, and went BACK to number one again. that kind of shit almost never happens. they are a phenomenon, and they're also great. that REALLY almost never happens. shake it like a polaroid picture, indeed.
i did make an 80min distillation of the quadruple vinyl for condensed listening pleasure. probably a worthwhile step.

I second that.
Also, it's a weird rarity in that my girlfriend and I both like it.
The rest of the Dre CD is pretty good, too ... haven't yet even made it to Speakerboxxxxx CD yet, b/c I keep playing the other one over and over ... a total guilty pleasure.
And I second whoever gave the thumbs-down to the "skits." Christ, they're annoying. I mean "wack."
