2I write a lot but it's all bullshit for the most part. Poems, short stories, etc.
I'm bad at it but I like to do it.
I'll write you a letter if you want.

Any Writers Among Us?
41. How long have you been writing?
- Probably since 5th grade. but only after high school did i begin to really love it and do it on a regular basis
2. What do you write? Short stories? Poems? Have you written a novel?
Mainly screenplays (film) - lyrics for the bands i'm in (which could be taken as poetry sometimes), lots of short stories. Working on a novel now.
3. Has your stuff ever been published? Do you write to be published or for your own amusement?
I've had a few things published and the novel i'm working on is going to be published - I don't write to be published. It sort of happened by accident. I don't kill myself trying to get published, but I should work harder to do so (i'd love to support myself through writing alone)
4. Do you or would you write genre fiction? Do you dismiss that sort of writing?
I don't limit myself to a genre, but if someone had to label me, i could be thrown towards the sci/fi, horror, fantasy camp. but well. labels--boo!
5. How often do you write? Do you have a ritual?
I write every day. advice I rec'd once and continue to this day. i feel its the only way i can improve. no real ritual though. sometimes i'll get high
not as much anymore though.
6. Which authors inspire you?
Frank Herbert really inspires me. H.P. Lovecraft at times too
. Do you tend to write about a particular subject? Is it semi-autobiographical or entirely fictional?
I wouldn't say i stick to a particular subject. Mainly fictional. Although sometimes I find if there is a hero in my story, he is sort of like me in many ways
8. Do you have a method for composing a story?
A lot of times i'll write a screenplay and from that comes a story.
Screenplay writing is different then short stories or novels.
I've always wanted to use an outline, but just can't seem to do it.
but i keep trying. A lot of times i'll start righting and take a subject to an extreme to make it funny like "kill the poor" and at some point take it seriously.
9. What do you consider to be the cardinal sins of creative writing?
Hmmm. can't think of a good answer for this one. For me personally i have to watch myself and make sure i don't use fancy words when a simple one will work much better
10. Would you let us read something you've written?
Hmmm. maybe. probably not. i'd share with other writers via PM

51. How long have you been writing?
Ages
2. What do you write? Short stories? Poems? Have you written a novel?
Yes to all of the above.
3. Has your stuff ever been published? Do you write to be published or for your own amusement?
No reason.
4. Do you or would you write genre fiction? Do you dismiss that sort of writing?
If it was fun to write, I'd do it. I'd love to do genre fiction with someone else under a pen name. That'd be really fun.
5. Do you have a ritual?
God no.
9. What do you consider to be the cardinal sins of creative writing?
Trying to be creative. Sometimes people make the move to turn something from a "verse" into a "poem", or from "prose" into a "short story". That move is always a mistake.
10. Would you let us read something you've written?
Hellz naw brah

started when i was 17, so 15 years
Rotten Tanx wrote:2. What do you write? Short stories? Poems? Have you written a novel?
everything. newspaper/magazine articles, short stories, poems, press releases, speeches, kids' books. no novels, i just haven't seen enough yet.
Rotten Tanx wrote:3. Has your stuff ever been published? Do you write to be published or for your own amusement?
i've had things published but i still do alot of writing for myself.
Rotten Tanx wrote:4. Do you or would you write genre fiction? Do you dismiss that sort of writing?
i would. certainly don't dismiss it. as soon as the spirit moves me, i will tell tall tales of the people who've had influence in my life. gotta try and figure out how to get an agent.
Rotten Tanx wrote:5. How often do you write? Do you have a ritual?
lately because i'm going through some life changes I write every day. no ritual, it just falls out of me. but there are times when i'm completely blank and can't write shit.
Rotten Tanx wrote:6. Which authors inspire you?
Vonnegut, Richard Brautigan, Edward Abbey, Hemmingway, Hubert Selby, Orwell, Douglas Adams, Philip K. Dick, Stephen King, Allan Watts, Bukowski
Rotten Tanx wrote:7. Do you tend to write about a particular subject? Is it semi-autobiographical or entirely fictional?
eternal recurrence is a common topic, it's usually based on me because that's what i know, a few times i've gotten off on becoming a completely different person in a narrative, but it meets with mixed results.
Rotten Tanx wrote:8. Do you have a method for composing a story?
this is where i need some help
Rotten Tanx wrote:9. What do you consider to be the cardinal sins of creative writing?
trying to use heightened language, big words that nobody uses in real life
Rotten Tanx wrote:10. Would you let us read something you've written?
sure thing but i don't want to get ripped to pieces in public, pm me.

1. How long have you been writing?
Almost since I could read.
2. What do you write? Short stories? Poems? Have you written a novel?
I write ads professionally and have written everything from CD reviews to short stories to (bad) poetry. I've never attempted anything long-form.
3. Has your stuff ever been published? Do you write to be published or for your own amusement?
Not my fiction, which I've never even submitted for publication. But I've published book reviews, music reviews, essays, news features, etc.
4. Do you or would you write genre fiction? Do you dismiss that sort of writing?
Not at all. I love reading it and I have written it on occasion (sci fi and horror). It's not easy to pull off in a short story since genre fiction, unless you're good, depends so heavily on creating a convincing alternate reality.
5. How often do you write? Do you have a ritual?
Unfortunately, I can't remember the last time I wrote fiction. After spending all day being "creative" professionally, I usually just want to shut my brain off at home. But I can't help thinking like a writer all day, dreaming up ways to describe a scene or taking a snippet of information and mentally expanding it into a paragraph or page or precis.
I took writing courses in college and that was when I was my most prolific. This is owed largely to my immense laziness, so my last known writing ritual was waiting until the day before a deadline and pounding out a short story in a night.
6. Which authors inspire you?
Tolkien is probably my all-time favorite, but I wouldn't say he's a writing inspiration. Funny how those can be different.
Faulkner
Hemingway
Cheever
Mark Leyner
Hunter Thompson
Ring Lardner
7. Do you tend to write about a particular subject? Is it semi-autobiographical or entirely fictional?
Not to sound trite, but it's all semi-autobiographical. But when I'm writing "realistic" fiction, it tends to me more autobiographical than the genre stuff.
8. Do you have a method for composing a story?
Wing the hell out of it. Revise.
9. What do you consider to be the cardinal sins of creative writing?
1. Telling, not showing
2. Writing what you believe your audience wants to hear
3. Excessive modifiers (aka not allowing your reader to fill in some blanks)
4. Being experimental when you haven't even mastered the basics. Every young writer with the tiniest bit of aptitude for turning a phrase thinks he has to fuck around with form and syntax and perform all kinds of linguistic pyrotechnics, when the hardest thing of all is just to tell a good story.
10. Would you let us read something you've written?
One of these days.

That's a good one. But I think what makes that such a sin is not its inherent flaw, but the fact that it's so rarely done well. If you establish your own unique, compelling voice and, in that voice, that's how your characters talk (including your narrator), it can work. It's just another element of setting. But it's tricky as hell to pull off.
