Most (not all) of the bands in the other thread are Chicago GMA. So I'm starting another thread for NYC GMA. This makes is easier for many to ignore, and those local to laser in.
And whatddya know? I've got one to talk about -
Chord features a member of Pelican. The idea is that each of the band members picks a different note in a chord and just plays that note. Together, they play a chord. Improv, could be huge.
Growing are on Kranky and could be something else live.
The Austerity Program is our band.
The Water St. Lounge is a nice restraunt in Dumbo with good food and beer and things.
Post on, Gothamites.
Post on,

2Growing are interesting. I caught them as an opener on an Om bill and was skeptical at first. But they, ahem, grew on me. Very strange ambient improv.
On an entirely different note, there's a great show tonight at Club Midway (former Scenic).
The Brought Low are probably the best straight-up blues-oriented rock band in New York and have been for years. It's a pity so few people are hip to them.
Dixie Witch are slightly Southern-tinged, soulful, very hard rock. The drummer plays double kick AND sings and is an absolute beast. Their live show is phenomenal and is like being strapped to the cow-catcher on a locomotive.

3Okay, if no one else ever does this, I'll let the thread die. But I'll try it once more.
We've got a record release show on Thursday. We're playing with Easter and two bands I've never heard of. We'll go on last. It's at the Rock Star Bar in Williamsburg. We plan to play really, really, really loud.
And, just like Husker Du, we're playing our new record start to finish and then getting off stage. But we're not going to do heroin or secretly want to blow/kill one another.
At least, it's not in my plans.
