can i just suggest a composer? i like this thread but i have not any rilevant band from here!
Giacinto Scelsi (1905-1988) was an italian composer. He is best known for writing music based on only one pitch, such as ''Quattro Pezzi Su Una Nota Sola'' ["Four pieces each on a single note"]

32Milwaukee (I'll refrain from counting Call Me Lightning or Couch Flambeau, as everyone here knows them):
white, wrench, conservatory.--three-piece shoegaze with accordion and pretty damn powerful female vocals
Terrior Bute--three-piece DEVO-style synth punk with tap lights and keytars
China Pig--Sorta if Mr. Bungle and Clutch had a kid? I know that sounds awful, but it's really not. Great AmRep-style growly noise rock with weird song structures
The Kind of Jazz Music That Kills--seven- or eight-piece skronk noise rock. Conan Neutron said they reminded him of The Ex, which works as well as any other description, i guess!
The Goodnight Loving--Greg Cartwright of Reigning Sound produced their first full-length and they aren't very far removed from that whole garage-esque singer-songwriter rootsy punk-n-roll Goner Records vibe. In fact, they're soaking in it. These guys are scary good.

Wolfie - I'm actually out of good bands, but wanted to see if I could come up with 5 from my hometown. I actually know very little about Wolfie's music. Emo right?
Wasn't Mike in Wolfie? Does that count as two?
Just giving you a hard time.
I like Mike -- good guy.
Some of my current Chicago Favs:
* The Bitter Tears - totally top of the list
* Let's Get Out of This Sandwich Shop
(didn't just choose these two cuz they are my labelmates - both are super good)
* Bottomless Pit, of course
* The Dials
* Pit Er Pat (they still live here, right?)
There are so many more than that though.
And if I were going to guess at a future favorite:
The Razi/Bayrak Deluxe Combo Act
my mustache will be named 'Rick'.

I got to see The Jetsons, The Dads, Zero Boys in Indianapolis around 1979 when I hung out there for a couple of weeks during Xmas break in college.
Don't forget Dow Jones and the Industrials.

Which is not to say that their other output has been crap, but the first record was my handrail through the summer of my divorce. Thank you, Now it's Overhead.
Funny, I thought that one would be the one that people around these parts would disparage. What with it being, y'know, not aluminum in any way.
