Are you serious? How do you know this?

I did notice the five or so times I saw Unwound it was like watching a bipolar band. They were either energetic, great and amazing, or boring, bland, lifeless and almost nodding off while playing.

no no, you misunderstood. not unwound - but the other bands on gravity...
the substance abuse of members of antioch and clikatat are pretty well documented. sadly, the bassist of clikatat passed away due to an overdose...

I always found it ironic that the reason the band Heroin broke up is because the guy that runs Gravity (the guitarist maybe?) got addicted to heroin (the drug). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read that a while ago in a copy of Alternative Press. They had a two or three page article on Gravity records. The whole drug thing... It sucks, Clikatat Ikatowi were amazing. I mean what I can gather from their recordings. The other stuff, Champagne Kiss, Spacehorse... I find it pretty average.

i think spacehorse was some silly side project. that record is ok, but not very interesting. you should check out Mohinder and Angel Hair. I like both way more than Clikitat

woah, woah, woah. mohinder and angel hair...better than clikatat...? now yr just speaking craziness...

and for the record, the champagne kiss were never on gravity - gsl, or 31g. the gravity wanna be.

as for spacehorse being a silly side project? silly or not, i don't think its a side project. it's definitely a "project", but i don't think it's a "side". and they're contemporary...the record on gravity is meh - but more recent 12" they did "ghosts of the civil living" actually sounds a heck of a lot like classic gravity stuff...pretty damn good, actually. way better than the lp...i strongly suggest you checking it out...

I'm not a huge fan of Angel Hair. I have a 7" and that's it, but I find Sonny Kay's work with The VSS and even Year Future way more interesting. Subpeona The Past on the other hand...

But I find that the The VSS and Clikakat Ikatowi have stood the test of time music-wise a lot more compared to Angel Hair.

I'm intrigued to hear more Gravity-esque stuff. I may check out the newer Spacehorse 12".

Big John wrote:The pickups and knobs look like a old framus (not the new ones). as well as the vibramute on the bridge. Not at all like a tesco. The thickness of the wood in the top photo is also a giveaway to me as tesco's are generally 3/4 inch like and framus's are thicker than tesco's but not as thick as a fender. The location and abundance of switches on the plate and finish / color too. By that I mean the odd moon burst.

The problem with my theory is that the head stock looks more like a micro frets neck. I have a framus here and that headstock looks exactly like a fender. But this if it were a Framus is not the same model.

The framus pick ups are pretty distinctive and thease look like them.

As do the metal knobs

This is the style that I play but mine had the metal knobs and typical pickups. This one has simplified electronics and a new bridge. Mine has been radicly modded.

I think this is the right direction but a lot of Japanese copy guitars would grab stuff from other makers and clone them so it could just be Framus like. It is unusal to see the big magnets in those old pickups except for framus.[/list]

Im going to say this is a Frankenstein also. The tail trem is a jazzmaster's. The body is a teisco/goya etc..

I have two teiscos now, and they play better then most 400-500 guitars. Got one for 20 bucks and a super nice e-110 for 50. The e-110 is superfast, but it's neck is itty-bitty. The unidentified is an awesome country-blues beater - I can pound the living shit out of it and it just sounds better and better. It's almost half banjo. I wish I could identify it and buy another in mint condition. I freaking love that beater. I'm pretty sure Hounddog loved Teisco for the same reason - cheap, sturdy, and full of tone when you work the strings over.

i agree re: angel hair. i was a pretty big fan of the vss back in the day, although to my ears, it definitely sounds pretty dated to me. clikatat really holds up well i feel - especially that last ep.

the second spacehorse lp is definitely worth a listen, but it's not going to convert the masses - it just sounds refreshingly old school. i'm not thrilled w/ the vocals, but they're still better then most bands in the same vein.

i'm pretty sure their myspace page has a lot of clips from that lp on it. "genetically shallow" feels like old clikatat to me, in the best possible way. if only mario were drumming, then it would really kick some ass...

A popular sport in my home also, though over the last few weeks it's been Kramer Aluminum Neck Basses and Peavey T-60s. I'm buying gear like crazy these last few months.

Anyone have a DMZ they can sell me so I can move on with my "life"?

yeah. i have two dmz basses i'm looking to unload. both are black. one was modded and has a jbass pickup added to it. it looks a bit gnarly, but sounds fine. i had both cleaned and set up a few times as i've owned them for two years.

but i'll sell them for way less than what they've been going for on ebay. $450 for the non modded one, and $350 for the modded one.

i use a 450 and prefer it - it's a bit sturdier and way more suitable for the kind of music i play. also, i'm having an electrical built...and i need to sell these to pay for it.

best,
