Huh?

No, we're talking about Andrew WK here.

quite possibly one of the more pretentious fake rockers around, he tries to be all ironic and irreverent. meanwhile its entirely manufactured pretentious bullshit mainstream sell out jock rock. Pimped out for Target ads etc...

He's basically a commercial musician doing hokey nascar songs etc...

the epitome of what is wrong w/ "rock" these days in the mainstream.

wrong, wrong, wrong... absolutely brimming over with wrongness.
Love him, hate him, or absoutely indifferent Andrew W.K. is 100% sincere about everything he does. It is music for the widest audience possible designed to make people feel good.

Ironic?
please!

Because it is for a wide audience, it doesn't appeal to everybody.

I don't agree with the advertisements (there is more then one right?), but his idea is that if you can reach more people with advertising then all the better.

I don't agree with that at all, but that's why he's doing it.

To call Andrew W.K. "pretentious" is absolutely laughable. Even if you've never met the guy, he's completely not what you would call pretentious at all in his writings/interviews/etc.

And how can you be pretentious with a song called Party Til You Puke anyway?

I went to the guest lecture last night and it was awesome. All I can say is that Hexpane is so so fucking wrong. Andrew WK is not fake, he is completely honest in everything that he does. The dude seriously loves life and music and he wants to share that with as many people as possible. He pretty much said thats why he went corporate with his music, so he could reach as wide an audience as possible.

I too totally enjoy stupid hard rock, but cannot stomach this guy for a second. His modus operandi makes me want to vomit and his music is even worse. I gave the debut record a sincere open minded listen and hated it. Mostly the cheesy synth and lack of riffs that are actually good. Don't even get me started on the lyrics. CRAP!

I thought he had some sort of "ironic" shtick going at first as well, and i was wrong wrong wrong. Couldn't be farther from the truth.

Ya don't need to like the music, but at least get the facts straight.

In the few interviews that ive seen with this guy he always came across like one of those motivational speakers you might see on a lame infomercial, spewing out tired catchphrases about self empowerment or some other shit.

And the chorus to Party Hard sounds like it was sung by a pirate

..... PARTY 'ARD!!!!

Crap.

Say whatever you want about his music, or about him being a goofball, but he seems anything but pretentious. I know many of you guys probably didn't catch the show Your Friend Andrew WK, but I was pretty charmed when I saw it. "Tired catchphrases"? Yeah, but also big, dumb, corny fun. He reminds me of the friendly convenience store clerk you see all the time who always has something nice to say when you come in, even though he doesn't know your name.

"Chasing Jaime" episode.
"Body by Jack" episode.
"Tatoo You" episode.

Really nice guy in real life. I talked to him after the 77 drummer Boredoms concert (like seconds after it finished), and he seemed like he was really into everything that had to do with music at that one moment.

"Did you see the sun setting over the city skyline? This was so surreal; I'm so happy to be here" or something like that he said to me.

Andrews music is fun. Also, doesnt he have a degree in classical piano? Man could probably play most people under the table. He loves what he does, and hes 100% honest about it.

How can you fault him for that?
