Album: Catholic Boy by the Jim Carroll Band

Never got the whole Jim Carroll thing, maybe because I mentally linked it with The Waitresses and Felony and all that early 80s soundtrack "new wave" bullshit. And really, I don't care that the lyrics read like "good beat poetry". Carroll co-wrote a song on Blue Oyster Cult's "Club Ninja". That's enough for me.

Hated "The Basketball Diaries" too.

The cover is pretty funny actually. Featuring his giant fucking hog with Mom and Dad. I gotta wonder if he chubbed up a little for the pic, or maybe he was just high...

...anyway. This could have been a good record if the production wasn't so fucking bad. What kind of asshole records the Jim Carroll Band as if they were Heart. And the vox are way way up front, and he sounds straight through most of it. Maybe he didn't want to be Johnny Thunders or something...

I know the album well, I'm gunna say crap. Too many elements were forced. This should have been a raw punk record, but it got cleaned up like The Knack - and The Knack kick the living shit out of the Jim Carroll Band.

Holy shit, terrible guitar sounds.
