and they're quite a bit cheaper than a rhodes, although they are not electromechanical.

anyone have one or play one? how's the sound? how's the action on the weighted keys?

the dual voices (it's analog) seem really cool. you can detune the pianos and create phasing, too. tremolo and decay controls, too.

I read they're heavy, too. Fortunately, I'm not really looking for a touring piano, as my nord works just fine and weighs around 8 lbs.

I've really wanted to start playing on some weighted keys, as I tend to write differently on them. I've seen them going for $250, which seems pretty fucking reasonable, considering how well yamahas were built in the 70's.

that, and I'm assuming yamaha did a pretty good job on weighting keys, since they make the nice pianos, too.


and it's fucking beautiful.

It's funny you should bring this up. A band I have in my studio now has one. It's cool but only has a few usuable voices. But the few it has are decent. It's not a replacement for a rhodes. The action is pretty realistic.

The keyboard player in my highschool band had one 25 years ago. And then these guys brought one in last week. And now here you have this post.

I will play it tommorow and try to give you more info.

I'm really not looking for a bunch of sounds but reading on the way you can mold and blend the two analog piano voices seems incredible. I probably won't be in the market for one until january at the earliest, and I really want a weighted keyboard. A rhodes, unless it really is a deal, is still pretty far out of my price range, but I've got the keyboard bug (have for years), and this one seems really cool. I mean if it's good enough for Elton.....


I've been running my nord on piano sound through my pedals, and have gotten some pretty fantastic results with the POG octave, fuzzes, delay and ring mod--organs, fuzz guitar, shrieky leads, synthy squelches, dub repeats, etc. if the piano sound is good (I know it won't sound like a piano), I'd still be game.

As far as the sounds go that's what you should expect.

No no no...

Either go electromechanical or just get a modern piece with a zillion awwwwllllsome sounds.

These things are relics.

If you want real pi-nano on a budget, start looking at the Hohner Pianet. Small, portable, reedy and easy to carry. Sounds like a cross between a Rhodes and a Wurlitzer, only smaller than a guitar case.
SO GREAT with a little overdrive and/or tremolo on it.
About $350-400.
Reliable too.

The world will figure things out one day, and these will go up to $600-700, but for now, get in on the ground floor, chief. I mean "guy."

Now a Yamaha CP70 is another story, but who the hell wants to haul that around?
Plus, it will make you sound like Simple Minds.
Not the good period either.
