There are bands with both those names, Red Snapper is kind of a ninja tune type acid jazz band and I saw a band called Grape Ape at the Fireside a long time ago, just some punk band.

I'd say Swervedriver is the quintessential shoegaze band, I'd say anyone interested in that whole scene dosen't really need to dig any further than Swervedriver they are pretty much as good as it gets
