In the midst of this absurd groove, Bonham does what sounds like a press roll around the kit. It's so fast it sounds like rushing water, and we're well into the song when it happens... it's almost subtle, it's so unexpected - and I swear it's technically impossible. The thought of it gives me goosebumps.

There are others, but this is my personal favorite.

The part in Born To Run as it goes into the bridge, I think? Lots of open hi-hat going on for just that one time through. Such a great part. Interesting to note it was not played by Max Weinberg & isn't played that way live. For shame.

The part where Steve Shelley goes nuts on all the toms in Schizophrenia, doesn't count as a fill but pushes that song somewhere else in such a great way.

There's also a song off of Portastatic's Slow Note album, I think it's The Great Escape? It's one of the more upbeat/rocking songs, has a nice jazzy little fill where everything stops but for that.

My favorite is the drum fill in the break of "Teenage Riot" introducing the rhythm section back after 4 bars of just guitar.

Whoever did the drums to Mark Eitzel's cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up" threw down some bad-ass fills throughout the whole song.

I also love Stewart Copeland's fills during the crescendo at the very end of this version of "Can't Stand Losing You":

Considering that I mentioned this song over in the top 5 favorite guitar riffs thread, anyone not familiar with the song should probably check it out, since it has the monster riff and the tasty drum fill.

Any other contenders for favorite guitar riff and favorite drum fill in the same song?

This song?

Thanks for bringing it up. I hadn't heard of this before, and I'm loving it.

Three-quarters of the way through "Kashmir" on that Zeppelin live DVD thing. It lasts for about twenty seconds...

Which would (three years later) make its way into the live rendition of "Afterglow," played by Chester and Phil.
