Things are coming together for this year's convention,
which will be at the French Quarter Sheraton in New
Orleans from June 6th - 8th. We're taking registrations
by mail and fax right now, and hopefully our online
registration form will be up by the end of the month
(it's hung up with the bank).

I'm just trying to get the word out, because with the
way TapeOp Magazine wrote about their (Larry and
John, editor and publisher)not being involved, some people
are under the impression that there won't be a convention
this year. Which is completely wrong... this is the same
convention, organized by the same people who've been
doing it for the past few years... including input and
involvement from many TapeOp writers. It's different
in name only from last year's convention.

Lots of exciting things this year...

There'll be three studios set up: The regular PotLuck Studio
where we'll track a new version of "Carnival Time" with Al
Johnson, which will be released as a benefit for Johnson
who recently moved back into the Habitat For Humanity
Musician's Village. There will be a mastering studio presented
by Dangerous Audio where Greg Calbi, Dave Kuch and
others talk about their trade. And there will be a Potluck
Basics Studio, where basic recording techniques (guitar,
bass, drum, vocal micing) are explained.

There's going to be a speaker demo room that people sign
up for, where they can bring their own CDs in to listen to
over a variety of near-field monitors without a sales person
(or the background noise of a music store) to disturb them.

Anyway.. you can check the site for more info. There's going
to be almost twice as much content as last year and the price
to attend is exactly the same. Panelists and sponsors are
being signed up daily, so a lot of information is going to be
updated in the next few weeks.

Check it out... and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Fred

While I love Tucson (I'm here at Wavelab right now), I
do believe that there were obstacles to being stuck at
a resort hotel, isolated from town. This year, you're
smack in the middle of downtown New Orleans for the
conference. People are free to not eat overpriced
hotel food, and can use the internet without shelling
out $10/day.

The hotel room price is only $10/night more this year,
easily offset by the fact that New Orleans is much
cheaper for the majority of people to fly in and out
of.

There are a lot of factors that should make this year
the best year ever. Hope to see everyone I know
from here (Stewie, Steve, Sowley + Electrical) in
June.

Best,
Fred
