I was at the Expo's last game. Pretty sad actually. They were clearing out lots of old merch that people were buying by the boatload, and I got a free poster of the 1994 roster that they never gave out. They had a zillion of these printed up, and never got to use them (I saw the containers full of them) because of the strike. Pretty sad stuff.

Me too. I didn't expect it to be as affecting as it was. There was a delay in the 8th as people were throwing golf balls onto the field, an I remember a ream or so of "BUCK FUD" flyers sullenly drifting down off of the upper deck.

The last couple of years, a ticket cost $8 and a 32-ounce cup of Ex cost $8.50 -- that's probably about what they charge at the Bifteck now. Stands full of Orthodox Jewish summer camp kids, old guys, Vermonters. I still rock an Expos hat in the summer months, and it's not a rare occasion that I show up somewhere and someone takes one look at it and becomes wistful. What a shitty affair, from Brochu to Selig to Luria. And now they're ripping off another city, one that can hardly afford it.

Sigh. At least we still have Youppi.

I am certain that the scent of sweet leaf was wafting up from the White Sox bullpen one evening at Milwaukee County Stadium. Many of us were craning our necks to see who was toking up, but it had this little roof and they were hiding it too well.

I also saw one of the funniest things ever that night: right before the game when the relief staff was settling into the bullpen, some guy in a White Sox jersey came over and started yelling, "THIGPEN!!...HEY, THIGPEN!!.....THIGPEN!!!!! He did it for a good thirty seconds and Bobby Thigpen was about twenty feet from him, hoping he'd just give up. Finally he turned around and said, "WHAT?" Dude shouted, "YOU SUCK, THIGPEN!!!" and walked away. Thigpen stood there and watched him go, and I remember at least a couple of the Sox pitchers hiding big shit-eating grins. Maybe it was him getting baked later.
