Disregarding who came first, who did it better?
When I think Slint, I think:
Carol
Good Morning Captain
Nosferatu Man
Don, Aman
Washer
Glenn
When I think Mogwai, I think:
Punk Rock
CODY
May Nothing But Happiness
Stanley Kubrick
I know you are but what am I?
Glasgow Mega Snake
Sine Wave
You Don't Know Jesus
2 Rights Make 1 Wrong
Summer
Ithica 27-9
My Father my king
Yes! I am a long way from home
Tracy
A cheery wave from stranded youngsters
Mogwai fear satan
Xmas Steps
Helicon Part I (Especially the BBC Commisions version)
I'd have to go with Mogwai. Both really have their moments, but Mogwai has a lot more of those moments. And surely it's because their catalogue is five times the size of Slint's. but hey, them's the breaks.
Mogwai.

3I'm gonna say Slint because I find myself listening to their records more often than the only Mogwai album I own which is "Mr. Beast".
Great album, I just don't spin it as much as Slint.
So I'm gonna go with Cher.

4This thread is going to be a horrible massacre.
I think Mogwai and Slint are very different bands though. Slint seems to me to be all about menace and atmosphere, whereas Mogwai just go for beauty.
14 through 18, Mogwai were my favourite rock band. I lost interest around Happy Songs for Happy People, and gave up after Mr. Beast.
Maybe I'm just being sentimental, but I think EP+6 and Young Team stand up pretty well against Tweez and Spiderland.
And as for sadness, R U Still Into It beats Washer.
There. I said it.
Fuck it, Mogwai.

7I came across Mogwai first. Slint aren't bad, and I appreciate their influence but the OP said "Disregarding who came first". Despite their influencing my playing, I just plain like Mogwai's music better.
Mogwai.
Mogwai.

i was going to make fun of some Slint lyrics (i miiiisss you), but then i ended up reading them all and now i feel retarded because they're so good.
still, Mogwai. i've enjoyed their progression.
