"I knew he was different in his sexuality
I went to his parties as a straight minority
It never seemed a threat to my masculinity
He only introduced me to a wider reality
As the years went by, we drifted apart
When I heard that he was gone
I felt a shadow cross my heart..."

The above lyrics were written by a 40-year-old man. A 40-year-old man named Neil Peart. Another member of his band agreed to sing these lyrics.

Billy Ocean - "Get Out Of My Dreams, Get Into My Car":

"Hey you, get in to my car
Who me?
Yes you, get in to my car
Woooooooooh. Wah! Hey!

Who's that lady
Coming down the road
Who's that lady
Who's that woman
Walking through my door
What's the score
I'll be the sun
Shining on you
Hey Cinderella
Step in your shoe
I'll be your non-stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your man

Get outta my dreams
Get in to my car
Get outta my dream
Get in to the back seat baby
Get in to my car
Beep Beep, yeah
Get outta my mind
Get in to my life
Ooooooh
Oh I said hey (Hey) you (You)
Get in to my car

Oh baby

Lady driver
Let me take your wheel
Smooth operator
Touch my bumper (Bumper)
Hey, let's make a deal
Make it real
Like a road runner
Coming after you
Just like a hero
Outta the blue
I'll be your non-stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your man

Get outta my dreams
Get in to my car
Get outta my dreams
Get in the back seat baby
Get in to my car
Beep beep, yeah
Get outta my mind
Get in to my life
Ooooh
Oh I said hey (Hey) you (You)
Get in to my car

Oh baby, lets go!

I said open the door
(Get in the back)
Tread on the floor
(Get on the track)

Yeah (Yeah) yeah (Yeah)
Yeah (Yeah) yeah (Yeah)

Let's go!!

Oooh, wooow, yeah

I'll be the sun
Shining on you
Hey Cinderella
Step in your shoe
I'll be your non-stop lover
Get it while you can
Your non-stop miracle
I'm your man

Get outta my... get outta my...
Woooooooooh
Get out my dreams"

Wow. These lyrics are bad.

this is a hard task picking out the worst of the rollins band lyrics...every song is first person perspective. essentially every rollins band song is about rollins. now i get it...the rollins band, it's all about rollins.

i'm just going to pick the songs that were my favorites when i was 14.

tearing

The way you look at me
Is tearing me apart
And the way I make you feel
Is tearing you apart
And the things we're doing to each other
Is tearing us apart
Look at you and me, tearing each other apart
I don't mean to do it
You don't mean to do it
So we better stop it now
Because we're tearing each other apart

It's hard to be alone
But it's harder to be with you
I'm a lying liar with my pants on fire
Tearing myself apart
Slamming down the phone right in your face
Tearing you apart
So close, too close, not close enough
Tearing each other apart
When I see you
I want to tell you
But then I lose the words
And it tears me apart

Better walk away
Before we crawl away
I've got a hole inside
And I keep it deep inside
And I'm going to go inside
And it's there I'm going to hide
Because I've got to get away
To see if I'm ok
Sometimes things don't work out
It tears you apart, it tears me apart
Sometimes happens all the time
And I'm feeling torn apart

you didn't need
You turned me in and you burned me out
You pulled me in and you locked me out
You ripped your feelings right across my back
You didn't see that I was bleeding
You turned away when I spoke to you
You looked away when I looked right through you
You didn't need to do that to me

When I touched you
Did you feel it?
Did you ever feel anything at all?
Do you ever lie awake at night?
Do you ever think of me?
I've got my arms wrapped around myself
You've got your arms around someone else
I try to tell myself
I'm not down

I didn't want it but I got it anyway
I didn't want it and I couldn't get away
I can't deny it
I miss you
Even though it hurts inside
In my dreams I kiss you
I keep a lie alive

I wrack my brain trying to remember
Everything I said to you
I wreck my brain trying to dismember
Any part attached to you
I'm sorry I still feel this pain inside
It shows on my face like a scar
It's something I can't hide
Some people are better left alone
It hurts so much when you have nothing to say
It hurts so much to have to walk away

i will contend that andrew weiss is an awesome bassplayer though. from the wartime ep, "fast food for thought" which was apparently some sort of dc go-go project.

the whole truth
Hello! Say what? Oh yeah? Too much.
What's new? What's up? I here you're messed up, in trouble, in pain
No need to explain - Expectation let you down
See yourself inside - When it gets real do you hide?
Can you face them or do they chase you down
How it could be and how it is - What it should be and what it is
Just another version of the big fat truth
Mind the gap, see the distance - It's the blueprint of resistance
Try to get your point across and it gets knocked back
Confrontation - static
Intimidation - panic
Eye to eye and wall to wall
Can you see what's here? Does it fill you with fear?
Can you keep your distance from what you hate?
Unbelievable, unreal, too shocked to feel
Look out! Mind the gap!

The truth ain't nothin' but the truth

Oh no! You don't say! They don't see it your way?
In the dark everyone was just like you
Now you're mad, uptight because the world's not right
You don't think and it makes you sad
Attitude affected, your way - rejected
Stupidity to get you through
Check out the gap that's all around you
Try to get close, it astounds you
How these people can be so relentlessly cold

Too easy, so blind. Too tough to be kind
Man, you're like some guy in a comic book
Get real, pull your head out
Get up, and get the lead out
Man, I know you can do better than that
Yeah you could stay away from arms length away from life
But it takes strength to get up close and go all the way live
Bridge the gap, take the first step
The more you go, the more you get
Down with the program and on with the show

The truth ain't nothin' but the truth

This is the correct answer to the worst lyrics question. What gives them the edge is two-fold: 1) The earnestness w/ which Lee delivers them which leads me to believe 2) Rush strike me as being the sort of band who discuss the lyrics in some sort of band meeting function and I am sure when these lyrics came up they all thought they were pretty great, i.e Rush has no idea how bad these lyrics actually are, making them the worst ever.

In an effort to gain some sort of consensus on this topic, i trust that everyone in this forum will view the following as worst lyrics of all time. they require no explanation as they are self evidently devoid of meaning, intelligence, creativity and originality. Trapped within an album full of true lyrical abominations are the following two songs by Body Count...

Body Count's In The House

Body Count, Body Count.
Body Count, Body Count. (YEAH MUTHA <EXPLETIVE>!)

Body Count's in the house, Body Count.
Body Count's in the house, Body Count.
Body Count's in the house, Body Count.

Body Count, Body Count, Body Count, Body Count.

BC, BC, BC, BC,
BC, BC, BC, BC,
BC, BC, BC, BC,
BC, BC, BC, BC.

Yes, those are actually the lyrics of two songs by the band Body Count, from their album entitled Body Count...There is also a track on this album that is called "Body Count" that is different from the two mentioned above.

Other songs with terrible lyrics that deserve some mention are "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" by Toby Keith..."Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Greenday..."Photograph" by Nickelback...

Best lyrics of all time? "Gangster of Love" by the Geto Boys. I have no idea how they were able to deliver these lyrics without breaking out laughing. They must have had about 1,000 takes. Truly hilarious, but they are in on the joke (they are, right?)...

rzs wrote:"Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Greenday...

Oh shit yes.

I haven't thought of this one in a while (fortunately), but I can recall even the very very first time a radio played it at me... my first thought was that perhaps it was intentionally cut & pasted together from all the crappiest rock-n-roll lyrics cliches ever... but it wasn't a joke song (right?) so there is really no excuse for these lyrics THAT TRY SO HARD TO SAY NOTHING

- walking a "lonely road"

- road/street/boulevard/whatever of (broken) dreams

- personification of 'shadow' and 'city' (shadow walks, city sleeps)

- being 'on the border line' of something or another

blech.
