Record is sort of so-so. But they were a great rock band at Schuba's. Really enjoyed the show.
The opening band, The Muslims, were also really good. They reminded me, somehow, of a more rocking version of The Feelies. Not bad at all.
Night Marchers (Ex-RFTC, Hot Snakes, Drive Like Jehu).
32They were great last night. I could watch Reis play guitar for days and not get bored.

33Yup, fantastic. Restorative and inspiring.
Beautiful.
Wouldn't have gone if not for J. Burns shoring up my resolve, so thanks!

34I can't stand this Night Marchers stuff but then I also thought RFTC were rubbish too. I'll have to check out Obits.

I feel like we are the same person. Wanna start a band called the "Asshole Muffins"?

Wow, that's hilarious and, well -- enough said. Swami is Reis' label.
Expecting a new band to sound like a former is fine.
But the Night Marchers record is way better than I was expecting. Dude (Reis) doesn't wanna play one-up on crazy "we play rock 'n' roll and light stuff on fire" Bronx/Monotonix shit and I for one am stoked about it. Doesn't sound anything like RFTC and/or the Hot Snakes. A bit like the Sultans, though, for sure.
Bring the new shit, let the old die on the vine....

37I'm a huge fan of Reis' projects and this one has a few hot tracks and a BUNCH of stinkers...like totally old guy lame-o 50's sorta boogie shit. Think about those embarrassing skip tracks on the early Elvis Costello records. Total bummer.

Beat me to it.
I love Rick's voice as much as anyone else, and I'm super excited about the Obits record. But, dude, seriously? On those Pitchfork/Jehu/Hot Snakes records, who do you think wrote all those riffs that Rick is wailing over?

39I dunno. I like the record. It's definitely a grower though. Give it time.
I think of it as a RFTC album that my wife wouldn't bitch about listening to on a long trip.

I was going to say the same thing. Rick's voice is great and definitely makes for a fun listen, but Reis is the guy crafting those awesome riffs. Frankly, Rick is a pretty weak guitarist too. Whereas Reis is....Genius?
Watch this if you wanna see some basassness....
