New Mexico is cool. Around Silver City there's lots of stuff to do if you like the outdoors. Gila National Forest, Gila Cliff Dwellings, etc. Lots of wildlife, especially birds.

In Deming there's a pretty good restaurant called Sí Señor. I've stayed in Silver City but just passed through Deming a couple of times.
