I was talking about the Paperchase, but yes that Chris guy in Ifihadahifi sucks...

even at my most ego-maniac-ish I would never ever call us a precise machine of a band, esp my guitar playing, which is normally the sloppy part of the band.

so is anyone attending any of these shows? I'll be in dubuque, if your there I'll buy you a beer... just look for the normal person that can drink. (last time I attended it was an kind of an emo fest) rather a great show anyhow.

the Hifi opened the Chicago Paperchase show, they were great, they opened with 2 new songs, that were the most epic stuff I have heard them ever play, I loved it, even if you do not like this band you have respect that they are a precise machine of a live band. Not a note was misplaced...

now I'm really excited. I can't wait. I really hope they bring those out. their live performance is quite a run over of different feelings, because I'm usually left stunned, smiling ear to ear, and like you mention spot on a dime musicianship, with all the emotions that were just brought out of me. at least that's what I remember of the first two shows I saw of them. I was quite intimidated by them, just because they' music seems incredibly intelligent, and john's guitar playing kinda really blows my mind. not to trying to be school girlish hear, just always really impressed by these guys, not to mention; they all seem really nice.

congleton wrote:hey everyone. the one time chris decide to get on here and make a jackass out of himself had absolutely nothing to do with my frequency. as much as i love electrical, love working there and have a great relationship with steve and greg...i just dont really have the overwhelming interest in posting on message boards of any kind. from time to time i will but for the most part just not something i really think to do.

Well, aren't you just above all of these people who do have an overwhelming interest in posting on this message board? I guess posting on a message board might get in the way of making records, I suggest making that excellent point, John. In fact, you're just so completely above it, that you responded to a thread where someone questioned the origins of your decreased message posting frequency in a mere handful of days, about a thread from five years ago...

congleton wrote:i think its valuable to note that chris has an enormous reputation for being a real barnburner and in general a really sad little man in the dallas/denton scene. he seems really interested in talking shit on me and a lot of people i think have great things to offer. the amusing part is i couldn't pick him or his music out of a lineup. hate to be rude but thats how insignificant he and his contributions are to me. i could be standing next to him right now and would never know. i cant even say how i feel about his music because it has made no impression on me whatsoever but he certainly seems like he wants to research mine.

Is that valuable to note? I have met much more noteworthy engineers than yourself, and when they find out I'm from Dallas, they occasionally ask if I know you. Let me just say, you don't exactly have a professional reputation as the most charming kid on the block yourself.

You first claim to know much about me, followed by claiming to know nothing about me. So which is it? If I'm to believe you wouldn't even know it if I were standing next to you and I'm entirely insignificant, why would I believe your assessment of my reputation? And nobody asked you to pick my music out of a lineup or even brought up my music, period. In fact, it was only you, in this thread, that brought it up. For the record, I have never had any interest in researching your music. I did happen to notice when a Dallas band that I mostly knew from being on a Coca-Cola sponsored compilation put out a record on Kill Rock Stars. That was my original point five years ago, and I still stand by my original highlighting of that surprising fact. As for my music, I generally have never sought attention or credit for it. You will never see a link to it in my signature and I have yet to make a single Myspace page for any project I have ever been involved in. If you happen to find one, it wasn't made by me.

congleton wrote:chris why dont you have more to do? might i suggest charity work? a part time job???

I have been busy so it took me about four months before I was even made aware that this thread existed. I took time out of my schedule to point out how funny it was that you were bothered enough by something I said five years ago to try to make the case to complete strangers that I'm completely insignificant to you. I'm sure they believe you.

Well, Ike. At least I was responding to something that actually had something to do with me. I'd say calling me a dickhead over something that has nothing to do with you is a bit more reactionary.

If you're the same Ike from Kalamazoo that I'm thinking of, I believe I was supposed to meet you in a Michigan bar last November with some friends. I guess I'm glad I didn't.

HEY!
We settled our differences elsewhere, thank you.
I stuck my nose in where it wasn't wanted, and that's that. It's goofy to me to see "marginally" well known bands get unsubstantiated guff. That, ultimately, has nothing at all to do with me. Just calling bullshit where I saw it, and that wasn't right.

Now if the bands in question had DRUM MACHINES or PLAYED MUSIC THAT CAN BE DESCRIBED AS SWIRLING or MEMBERS LIVING TEMPORARILY IN ASIA the gloves would be fucking off. Then you'd have a fight.

But, ultimately, I was wrong.

I want to see the dickiest fight in years.

Ike
