Also, a few years ago I'd undertaken to record some music for a short animated film, and I was stuck for exactly what to do for a week or two, I wasn't overly enthused over anything I wrote. At the time I was working part-time on saturday afternoons, and on the way home from work one day I pulled in to the pub where a mate of mine worked for a beer and a chat. I waited in line for a beer, there was a bloke in front of me talking to an american chick, he said "You know, I do a bit of reading too. I read a book at school once." The woman said "Good for you!" with the most artful sarcasm, and I burst out laughing. She turned and shook my hand, and said "Hi, I'm Laura."
We got on like paper and flame, we drank in the sunshine, we went out for eats, saw a band, hit the piss, ended up at my place and fucked like possessed animals for days. She recited Ovid in latin, lying on my pillow in the dark. The day she left, she sat on my sofa wearing turquoise tiger-print underwear, and said "You're nice. I'm going to Canada now." and she called a taxi and went to the airport.
I immediately mic'ed up my piano and banged the music out in one go. I can't hear it now without instantly thinking of that week with her.

The Nina Nastasia song with the lyric "I will be leaving" in it. Bit of a downer as I like Nina N but haven't really listened to her for ages.

That girl went on to become not only somewhat well known in music but after that was finished I come to learn she started a local brewery in Mass and is now very wealthy. I saw her get interviewed for some 'woman entrepreneurs' segment on MSNBC about 6 months ago. She is a millionaire.
