Act: Killing sharks for sport

Complete and total crap, especially since no one should be eating shark meat due to the amount of toxins accumulated in the flesh of the poor things due to their position as top predator in the food chain. Killing sharks for sport alone is a cowardly and environmentally harmful practice.

Even worse is shark finning. God, do I fucking HATE Chinese people...

According to wildlife conservationists, much of the trade in sharks' fins is derived from fins cut from living sharks; this process is called finning.[17] Because shark meat is worth much less, the finless and often still-living sharks are thrown back into the sea to make room on board the ship for more of the valuable fins.[17] When returned to the ocean, the finless sharks, unable to move, either die from suffocation or are consumed by other sharks or animals.

Between shark finning and whaling and drift netting, I'd be perfectly happy to kill off most of China and Japan. Fuckers.

unrelated to this nonsense, I just heard that coconuts kill 10 times more people than sharks. however, that is not really accurate.

Not to excuse Mandroids harshness, as I am sure she is joking, but that was over 100 years ago, and we know what can happen to species now, 100 years ago we were much less civil about such matters...

No, I really do hate Japanese and Chinese culture and environmental policy that much. Ask Ben about how often I bitch about this. I hate people in general but I don't think I've ever had a good experience with representatives of those cultures in particular.

I also am well aware of the fact that no culture/race is perfect environmentally, but Japan and China consistently have terrible track records with environmental issues and not practicing sustainable anything. Industrial policy is always bad in pretty much any country, but most modern societies don't have a culture that's totally cool with killing tigers or rhinos for some ancient bullshit aphrodisiac or cutting fins off of sharks and throwing them back in the water to die suffering or dealing with overpopulation issues by abandoning their female offspring and continuing to reproduce until they have sons.

Japan is probably less nasty, environmentally, but their whaling practice (which they get away with by saying it's "for research") and overfishing/harvesting of the ocean doesn't make me much of a fan, to put it mildly.
