Our cat F11 has not figured out to use the human toilet yet but she is immensely curious about it. The other day she actually flushed it by accident after my girlfriend got done in there by trying to jump onto the top of the tank and missing.

Thanks for all the advice, folks. We're trying the two litter box thing and the kitty has an appointment with the vet tomorrow. We'll keep you posted.

my former cat, Frida did this for the last few years of her life. She was in some kind of pain down there that steroid shots seemed to help, but since it also weakened her kidneys it wasn't something we could do too often.

I think it was kitty arthritis and another condition she had called eosonophilic granuloma (sp) that caused her to avoid the litterbox.

This was remedied with almost 90% success with changing to one of those refrigerator drip pans from the local hardware store. keep in mind it was one that had a flat bottom, not the drain "ridges" that made the pan look like a giant plastic waffle iron or george foreman grill.

I used newspaper in the bottom of the box and put that clumping pine litter over one entire half. this did the trick until the last two weeks of Frida's life. By then she was pissing sitting down wherever she happened to get the urge, not moving, looking real sad.

oh man, yeah...i'd say get the kitty to the vet...

my old cat Bill had urinary crystals and he couldn't pee very much at all and i had to take him to an emergency vets where they said his bladder was the size of a grapefruit...i almost lost him that time...

Is she old? When my last cat got old and senile, she began exhibiting strange behaviour with food and toilet habits. It may just be an age thing. Gets us all in the end...

I read through this quickly, so maybe somebody already said this, but I would definitely take her to the vet. (Actually, maybe you already did that, in which case I should probably read through threads more carefully before posting.) She may have a urinary tract infection, which makes it painful for her to pee. What happens is that in their little cat brains they begin to associate the litter box with the pain, so they stop using it to pee. Or she might be holding it in because she knows it will hurt, and finally pees when she can't hold it in anymore, regardless of where she is.

Anyway, good luck. And if it is a UTI, that's pretty easy to fix.

This might be unrelated, but I found our cats started completely avoiding the box in our bathroom when I decided to pee into it as a lark one time. It wasn't a full bladder's worth, just a squirt, but I found that I had taken ownership of it until I bit the bullet and washed it.

Great way to stop your cats from pissing outside the box though. Just put your own piss on everything besides the box!

I have lots of space so my cat pisses and shits outside. I couldn't keep a cat that I had to clean up after - it's why I don't have a dog. Cats is ment to do their biz outside - they're very clean and capable. Kitty litter, yuck!
