Upgrade the pickup and electronics to vintage spec. If it was mine, I would also consider swapping out the pickguard to either a tortoise shell or gold aluminum pickguard and getting a better bridge as well, then pull the finish of the back of the neck with 400-800 grit sandpaper, and finish it up with 0000 steel wool.

Mr. Comrade's post has made me convinced that there is nothing that could possibly be done to that guitar that would be better than putting a gameboy into it.

I have a couple Game Boy Colors that I would be more than happy to donate.
