One of the best songs on Jewel/Osco's playlist.

Rank:
slightly worse than "Right Down The Line"
slightly better than "Time Passages"

I actually heard a Ramones song at Jewel (or was it Dominick's) once. Surprised the fuck out of me.

Some things on this video

1. The intro shuffle on this particular video is pretty ripping. Jeff Pocaro is a great drummer that worked in the service of the worst shit in the world. How sick would that song be with no brass and all that other bullshit? Sounds like a Led Zeppelin outake for about ten seconds.
2. I am a sucker for the fake out bring-it-up-a-third move they do when the vocals come in.
3. The pointing and direction thing immediately after Boz Scaggs sings the first lyric is practically identical to what my father used to do when playing - "just them." OK, Dad.

The song really goes to shit by the goofy solos.

4. WTF with his plectrum technique? It's hilarious that he has all these hot-shit session dudes onstage, and he's very uncomfortably trying to play three-note bar chords.

Jeff Porcaro, bad-ass drummer, no doubt. R.I.P.

Anyway, this video destroyed my super-ego. I realized halfway through that I would never vote crap on this if I heard it in a vacuum. Not seeing the jumpsuit, Doug Henning on keybs, etc.

Therefore, I have to change my vote to 'not crap.'

Man they had to work real hard and add a team of about twelve extra people to make that turn to shit, but they did it.

Get rid of all that extra shit and you've got a pretty good Mitch Ryder knockoff.

Wow. That's the technique of a kid on the day after he gets the power chord gestalt (holy fuck! I can play ANY song now!). Mr. Scaggs should have done what Bono and any other bigtime frontman does, and just totally faked the guitar playing. Really, who would have cared?
there is only one clear path and it's paved with bacon.

Agreed. The performance would be way better with just guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Leave the background singers on stage though.

Did you guys catch this guy playing drums along with Lido Shuffle?

He also has videos of himself playing along to "Silly Love Songs", the Andrew Gold classic "Lonely Boy" and the theme to "Greatest American Hero". For some reason I found "Lonely Boy" the most entertaining.
