I would be inclined to agree, but the US basketball team has gotten beaten badly a few times in recent Olympics. Didn't Argentina or someplace win the gold in the last games?

Basketball is popular enough in southern and central Europe, plus Israel and Turkey, for well developed, popular professional leagues to exist in those places. (Plus the aforementioned reigning gold medalists Argentina.) It's also getting more and more popular in China and other parts of Asia very quickly.

It's not like it's hurling, for fuck's sake.

Even hispanics have taken to the sport of basketball. There's a court near my house that always seems to have IBBL* games going on, highly competitive too. It's cool to see my people expanding into other competitive sports.
