Kraftwerk are one of the coolest bands ever. Germany hasn't produced anything as good since they were around.
Not crap because of:
- Their obsession with cycling
- Their wardrobe
- The fact that they look more German than any German person, ever
- Pulling off a chorus of almost dweeby harmonies at the end of "Autobahn"
- The video for "The Model"
- Best lyrics of any band, ever
A little bit crap in the last decade, but all in all Nicht so Krap.
Kraftwerk
6Being an old man, I listened to Kraftwerk "back in the day" (as you whippersnappers say) when I was but an annoying adolescent. Back when we had those large black plastic spinning things, and you put a needle--a fucking needle!--down on them, and somehow music came out! Wild.
So when I was on tour this summer, one of the other acts brought a copy of Computerworld, and I was reminded of how great that album was. Sure, the lyrics...aren't so good. But the music is mighty, and the beat from "Numbers" is a monster. And as cringey as it can be, "Computer Love" revealed its touching, beautiful interplay toward the end. Man Machine is way up there, too. And Radioactivity is responsible for lots of different kinds of electronic dance music. (But, if that's a minus for you, don't hold that against it.)
So yeah, not crap.
