Band: Butthole Surfers
12yeah that was a pretty interesting article... i think both sides have a legitimate argument... maybe the bhs were a little bit stupid/greedy but i dont think excessively so. if they honestly beleived touch and go weren't pushing their records hard enough, don't you think they had a point? i think king crystalized their point by saying :
"It's our back catalog as well, our livelihood, our retirement money," he says. "It's what we have done as a band, what all three of us have devoted our lives to since 1983. This is what we have to show. Touch and Go puts out records by many bands, but we have only the Butthole Surfers' records. We can't rely on Shellac or the Jesus Lizard to pay our bills."
tho to be honest i dont know what they hoped to achieve by switching to a major... ok maybe they would have pushed the records a bit more ... but recieved a much smaller slice of the profits. i think they would've done better to fire their manager

You don't think an 80/20 split for band/label is excessively greedy? Hmm. Have you ever received a royalty check for a recording?
You are also missing one very important point: The instance with the Butthole Surfers and Touch and Go was not only about greed, it was about trust and having your word mean something.

The Buttholes hoped to achieve rock stardom and to become millionaires by signing to a major label, by putting out some high-gloss sitcom theme single that would make them rich quickly. They won't deny this.
As far as their manager is concerned, they would have done better to call Corey Rusk person to person and discuss their matters.
But I digress. Please continue with the squirrel circuit semantic debate.

15I'm trying my damnedest to not hear all the terrible personal shit about the Buttholes Surfers...(fingers in ears...la la la la).....
I love their music and always will.
NOT CRAP in a seperating-the-art-from-the-artist kinda way.

16Not crap.
After enough alcohol, I don't care as much about t-shirt sales as the noise in the air that might be giving me a headache.

That's not entirely true.
