Finished up that old Hayman kit. Turned out pretty nice! I got the wrap from Walopus. I think he nailed the color of those Midnight Blue kits from the '60s, the way it's deep blue with a little purple. It feels good to look at when I hit it with sticks. How many things can you say that about?I'm onto a new disaster. The good folks in the woodworking thread helped advise me on stripping and finishing these '59 Slingerlands that I got for cheap because some numbskull painted the shells with green house paint. You can see where I sanded back a bit of the bass drum to reveal the gorgeous mahogany underneath. The paint stripper worked great, but unfortunately someone sanded these drums to remove glue or paint, who knows, and in some areas they sanded through the mahogany ply and into the poplar. I think it's poplar. Anyway, my plan to stain and finish the mahogany is not to be. So now I'm in the market for a wrap. I'm thinking of getting a sparkle. This pink sparkle from Jammin' Sams actually looks pretty cool to me. It reminds me of a time when ashtrays were huge and made of thick heavy glass. A time when Sinatra's prostate was soft and cars were shaped like boats.Should I be talked out of this, haha? Has this poor drum kit suffered enough indignity that it shouldn't have to wear pink sparkle?

Hey dudes - I just scored a late-60s/early-70s Rogers Dynasonic snare shell for $30 on Craigslist! It's chrome over brass, according to my research. It's basically in good shape, but it's filthy and has rust and mold in various places. My plan is to make a little project out of refurbishing it. I'll post pics here, but first things first: What should I use to clean this bad boy up? People on other forums have mentioned baking soda and a toothbrush, and others have mentioned Coca-Cola and tin foil (which sounds like a definite scratch hazard to me). Anyone cleaned a chrome-plated drum recently?
