Can anyone with Chessie experience weigh in on the neck dive situation? Do they only come with the big Denison neck or does he sometimes make them with the thin necks?

Solid neck. Heavy guitar! Neck dives! Don't care, but it is so.I also have a latter-day, one-off baritone that has a heavily chambered wood body and a hollow neck. Light and immaculately balanced.His newer guitars, like last several years, the production ones anyway, are just extraordinarily high quality, and I haven't played a single one that had a neck dive issue. I don't know what if any claims Kevin would make for the Chessie in that regard. But I'd take his word for it if he said it was well-balanced.Best production electrics in the world!tim

I spoke with Kevin briefly over this past weekend and I think I am going to have him build a bass for me. I love the EGC P-Bass I posted about here recently. However, I am still struggling to dial it in in a live setting. I think it is the pickup that I'm not gelling with. It's an absolute joy to play, I can get it sounding pretty awesome at home, and of course it's gorgeous. But no matter how many different EQ settings I try, I can't quite get my sound out of it live with my 800RB/VT Bass/Mesa cab setup and that's a bummer. So, I proposed to him a custom job: Jazz Bass-style brushed aluminum body, same neck as what is on the P (it's an amazing feeling neck), set of Dimarzio Model P and J pickups (my favorite bass pickups), push/pull tone pot to bypass the tone circuitry. Sadly, the P will have to go in order to fund this. So, if anyone has any interest, expect that to be listed for sale here at some point.

Thanks Tim and jbar.I had some emails with Mr. Hurt at EGC and it looks like I'm getting a Chessie with a thin neck. Assuming this interstate move they're engaging in goes smoothly.What could possibly go wrong...

Any EGC owners taking their "standard" guitars and using heavier strings and dropped tunings? How thick and low do you go?I wanna try setting my EGC for B standard tuning but i don't really wanna use full on baritone strings.

A local guy had to make adjustments to allow for the gauge I usually use. Hillary recommended the tech call Kevin before he did it because the nuts are a little different from the regular. Couldn t tell you how. Anyways, I don t play in any tunings that low but I do use bigger strings, so I bet you wouldn t have any more problems with an EGC than you would any other guitar with the same scale, aside from whatever is going on with the nut. I would expect for the intonation and feel to suffer either way, but it might not be that big of a deal if you want sludge.

I haven't seen them since Buzzo picked up a couple, so I don't know.
