Studio:I remember listening to a kick mic shootout on front end audio's page years ago and was astounded how the B52 and D6 clips sounded atleast 50% to every kick drum sound I had ever gotten. Opened my eyes quiet a bit. I picked up a Beyerdynamic Opus99 and have never looked back. I hear virtually no coloration from the mic, what I hear playing the drum is what shows up on tape (for better or worse.) Live:Have not found an instance I would pick a D6 over a B52 or D112 on kick.

Used the D6 again last night for the second time. This time I put it further in the kick than I normally would and angled it towards the beater. Seemed to sound a lot more natural than last time. The kick had a bit of padding in it so this would have taken some of the edge off on the top end.

I found the D6 sounded ridiculous. Probably the way to go if you want a black metal sound and don't have access to drum triggers/module.The D112 is okay. Sometimes sounds a little weird.The Sennheiser is good. It's like the D6 taking about 5 steps back towards a real drum. Hyped, but not clownish.I like an AT 4047 outside, blended with a dynamic if it's a typical mix, or by itself if there is a lot of space and I just want to hear the thing booming with lots of mid and low, but not that clicky treble notch.

I second/third the Sennheiser e602 as a great mic to add to the arsenal of d112, d12, RE20, Beta52, etc. It's inexpensive and effective and will come in handy when the others don't work or a go-to mic. Lots of attack as well as beefy-ness IMHO.

The Sennheiser 600-series kick mic is dope shit. Grunke finally came and got his, now I have to get one of my own.

Beyer m88s sound good on kicks and fairly 'natural' but I wouldn't recommend putting it inside the drum.
