There are LOADS of other fuzzes that don't have that reaction. Some fuzz faces even sound fine after buffers they just don't clean up that well with the volume knob.

well- based on a few recommendations and talking w/ dudes, I ordered the Tone City Fuxx Fuzz- not a perfect fit, but seemed to be a better basic fuzz tone than most, and having the octave function may be useful.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOFL-33dcEYalso threw $17 at a 'B-Box', which is a knock off of the Xotic BB preamp.
No one is paying you to sit on that bed and cry.

I've always liked the sound but never got to mess around with one. Wouldn't want to buy a clone and find it hard to use in my setup. Not sure off the top of my head, but this afternoon I can mess with mine and see.*EDIT* The square wave doesnt care about a buffer.

I had been meaning to do something like this for ages anyway, so no biggie. Its just a looper, but one set of jacks are true-bypass, and the other are buffered with a wet/dry blend knob. The true-bypass is great for quickly testing, say, how a fuzz sounds with and without a buffered pedal in front of it. And the buffered is great for testing which normal fuzzes sound rad with bass when you give em a clean blend!
