It does. Sometimes the very tip if a standard 1/4" TRS can make contact with the blade that is connected to the normal and cause the normal to not break with a plug in the jack, or so I'm told. I have never had an issue with it. I've also been told that because the 1/4" is slightly larger it can wear out the jacks faster, but again, never had an issue with it.scrotescape wrote: Fri May 21, 2021 2:59 pm but does a standard 1/4" guitar cable work in a long-frame jack field?
Re: Patch Bay
12The two primary differences I’ve seen between a standard 1/4” TRS plug and a B-gauge plug are the shape of the tip contact (conical on a 1/4”, spherical on a B-gauge) and the diameter of the “exposed” part of the connector. B-gauge jacks sit slightly recessed, at least on the ADC bays that I have, and the larger diameter of a standard Switchcraft or Neutrik plug does not allow it fully insert where the tip connection of the jack firmly grips the plug. Some of the molded Hosa-style cables are small enough that they will fit a little better. I’m happy to open up one of my bays and take some pictures if anybody is interested.
Re: Patch Bay
13Outboard sends are just your preamps, EQ, compressors that are wired up to the patchbay. I should have used Outboard Input/Output rather than calling it a send/return.GussyLoveridge wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 8:07 pmAstroRoadie wrote: Thu May 20, 2021 9:46 am Sorry, the resolution on those images is terrible but basically.
Bay 1
1-24 Tie Lines 25-48 Tape Out (console)
1-24 Mic Inputs 25-48 MultiTrack Sends (to Daw)
Bay 2
1-24 Line Inputs 25-48 MultiTrack Returns (From Daw)
1-24 Main O/P's 25-48 Tape In (console)
Bay 3
1-24 Insert Sends 25-48 Outboard Send
1-24 Insert Returns 25-48 Outboard Return
Bay 4
Aux sends, mults, more outboard, whatev's
Okay - This is helpful too for sure.
But I'm kind of missing what Outboard Send/Returns are? I mean, I get the send and return part...
Your Insert Send/Returns are your console channel inserts right?
And yeah, the inserts are from the console. So you would patch: Insert send> outboard (input) >outboard (output)>Insert Return.
Re: Patch Bay
14Got it that makes way more sense to me now. Thanks! I really appreciate everyones comments. And I think I actually might have an old long frame bay around. I don't know why I thought it wouldn't be comparable to a TT bay.AstroRoadie wrote: Sat May 22, 2021 2:30 pmOutboard sends are just your preamps, EQ, compressors that are wired up to the patchbay.
