Goat obviously but I love Liar.
I was pretty disappointed when Down came out and stopped paying attention to them.
Re: Favorite The Jesus Lizard record
12I've always kinda listened to Goat/Liar like one album.
But it's Liar if I have to choose from those two.
I listen to Shot occasionally because I have a weird EMI advanced cassette copy.

DIY and die anyway.

13Haha that press blurb is so lame it's kinda awesome and makes me wonder if it's a sly joke by the band?
That said, Thumper and Thumbscrews totally slay.

14They're all good enough that it came down to the one with my favorite song rather than trying to discern a best overall. They're too close, at least between Goat, Liar and Down.
Anyway, I picked Down, because Horse. Strong showing from Zachariah, Nub and Mouth Breather.
I actually skip The Art of Self Defense more than anything.

Re: Favorite The Jesus Lizard record
15Goat has just a little more variety and sonically has more breathing space than Liar, which I can at times find a little too unrelenting to get through in one sitting. Both fantastic records though.
Then it's Shot, (excellent first half but meanders a bit at the end, also sounds great, IMHO) Down, (meh) Head (dated Ugly-American-Overkill vibe that they evolved past quickly) and the rest.

My problem is that, for the life of me, I cannot figure out where the damn downbeat is, and therefore when to start counting to 12.

18Goat. That said, I've played it so much over the years that I'm more likely to put on Liar, Head or even Down and Shot nowadays; I need to give Goat a few more years on the bench before I can go back to rocking it...

Real Sophie's Choice kind of question.
Next you're going to be asking me about my favorite Effigies album. LOL
Check this out, it never gets old.

20Goat and Liar are pretty much neck and neck for me, but “Boilermaker” might be the best album opener ever.
So yeah, that one.
