I just saw Akron Family and Angels of Light.
Being in his (Gira's) presence scared the bejezuz out of me for reasons I don't fully understand. Akron Family were pretty awesome, but I left while Angels of Light were still playing. Not bad, but I was tired and the stuff was mostly boring.

2I can't wait for that tour to get to Baltimore. I missed Angels of Light the last two times they played.
Better yet, eat the placenta!!!

Isn't it mostly folk acoustic stuff? I have never heard any of the albums myself. How do they compare to Swans? Also, have you heard Gira's solo album Drainland?

5i'm probably going to be missing them in SF due to coachella, and they're the only Gira i've heard,
but angels of light warrant complete Not Crapness.

6I love the Swans and Angels of Light, but somebody really needs to pie Michael Gira.

This idea is borderline genius and really stupid.
This is a man who beat up a fan at a show in the early 80s because he was "having too much" during a Swans set.

8Yeah, I've heard this story (from this board before? from you? not sure...) -- and it made me think who ever did throw the pie would have to either be very tough, or at least a very fast runner.
I think I heard somewhere that when U.S. Maple recorded w/ Gira, he was doing curls in the control room... and trying to get them to use an all-male choir or something. He'd be acting all hard and they would keep goofin' on him.
I wonder if M. Gira likes kittens...

9The Gira solo Drainland LP is by far my favorite of his work. I like both the swans and angels, in equal parts. Swans Are Dead and Soundtracks for The Blind are excellent. Missed them on this tour. Seen him with Thor a few years back. It was amazing. I don't really think he is a tough guy though. Maybe in his drunken past, but not now. I've met him twice now and he seems very soft spoken and amish like. The Body Lovers / Body Haters records are also worth a listen if you like the looped stuff. It was a perfect transition between the Swans and the Angels of Light. I like The first two Angels records, but the last two I like but don't listen to near as much as How I loved You. Anbody on this board have the single from the first record with Jennifers Sorry and God's Servant? I have heard this track ( Gods Servant ) even downloaded it at one time, but can't find anything else about it???? Help.
