43Shit man. It shouldn't be a surprise when an 80 year old rock star dies, but it did kind of seem like he'd live forever.

44Indeed. The original no-frills rock drummer who had a deep-rooted love of jazz and a solid technique but also knew when to rein in the flashy shit. I can't imagine him ever playing a drum solo - at least not with the Rolling Stones, anyway - which only elevates him further in my estimation.
I hate music, it's got too many notes.

45It was announced he wasn't going on their upcoming tour maybe a week ago but I didn't realize it was this grim. He was always cool though: never succumbed to cheesy trends.BrendanK wrote: Tue Aug 24, 2021 12:29 pm Shit man. 47Goddamn. Who would've thought Charlie would be the first (ok, second) to go?
Re: RIP v2 - still no cure for death
48I first heard this anecdote on the forum (t/w Rolling Stone magazine link), but here's the condensed version:
Requiscat. For all of his low-key skill behind the kit, Watts seemed well aware that he was an irreplaceable element of the Stones’ sound. As one famous story from the band’s heyday goes, Jagger once phoned Watts’ hotel room in the midst of an all-night party, asking, “Where’s my drummer?” Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying, “Don’t ever call me your drummer again. You’re my fucking singer!”

50RIP, Charlie. The most talented Stone. I'm still surprised he's only the second Rolling Stone to die (third if you count Ian Stewart). None will outlive Keith Richards, but I thought he'd beat Ron Wood.
