102Robot Graves aluminum neck for my Squier. Can't wait!
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
103Jazzmasters tend to be as they were designed for that in the lead circuit. Try changing the pots to 500K or even 250K to tame that down.

104I just picked up a 2012 Fender FSR American Vintage Reissue 72 Telecaster Thinline in Black.
It's already had the pickups replaced with Fender's new reissue CuNiFe Wide Range pickups. Pretty stoked. Been wanting to do that to one of these reissues they only made for a couple of years (or with a MIM one). The FSR version has a beefier neck with bigger frets and a 9.5 radius. This puts all of the specs even closer to my long-ago sold/missed 1980 Telecaster Deluxe - but with the addition of an f-hole and a pickup switch that I won't accidentally hit.

105Or do what I've always done and roll off the tone to around 6 or 7.Dr Tony Balls wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2021 12:41 pmJazzmasters tend to be as they were designed for that in the lead circuit. Try changing the pots to 500K or even 250K to tame that down.
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
106I had a Squier JM with those pickups in it. Insanely hot compared to any other JM. The bridge was over 14k. I think that's where a lot of the harshness is coming from. Do the Squiers already come with lower value pots? Mine had 250k, but it had already been modified somewhat by a previous owner. I ended up replacing the pickups with Antiquity IIs, going back up to 1m pots and it sounds awesome. It can do bright, for sure, but it's pretty even across the spectrum (not ice-picky at all). Not sure if it makes a difference, but mine does not have the additional circuitry, just a volume and a tone, and I leave both all the way up.tommy wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2021 1:46 pmOr do what I've always done and roll off the tone to around 6 or 7.Dr Tony Balls wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2021 12:41 pmJazzmasters tend to be as they were designed for that in the lead circuit. Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
107I should have noted that I have ZERO experience with Squier JM pickups. My advice is mostly for traditional US JM pickups in the 7K range with the wide short bobbins. The MIJ ones are the WORST. Both the MIJ JM and Jag have the thinnest squealing pickups I've ever heard. I'd hope the Mascis ones are better. In fact, aren't they supposed to be more like P90s on that model?

108What kind of pots are in that bad boy? I've heard that the WRHBs came with 1meg pots back in the day, but that Fender says to install their reissues with 500k pots.tommy wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2021 1:43 pm I just picked up a 2012 Fender FSR American Vintage Reissue 72 Telecaster Thinline in Black.

109I'm wondering the same. I'll report back when I change strings. The CME guy that contacted me about it could only tell me the pickups were CuNiFe but didn't have pot values. I checked the pickups with a multimeter (both read around 11k) and they sound right, but I bet the pots are 500k. My vintage Deluxe had 1MEG. [EDITED] to say my vintage Tele Custom also had 1MEG as well, at least they two original pots were. The other two on the single coil side had been changed to 250K alphas.four_oclocker_2.2 wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2021 2:24 pmWhat kind of pots are in that bad boy? Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
110The pickups I pulled from my Squier JM could've easily fit in a regular strat style pickup enclosure. Taller than a "real" JM pickup and the winding didn't come close to the edges of the bobbin. It was essentially a 14k cheap strat pickup dressed up in a MJ-esque enclosure. If that doesn't sound particularly attractive in theory, I wasn't wild about it in practice either.tommy wrote: Tue Sep 07, 2021 2:07 pm I should have noted that I have ZERO experience with Squier JM pickups. In regards to the CuNiFe, I got one of those last year and they sound fucking awesome! I can't remember for sure what value pot I used, but pretty sure it was 500k.
