Anyone got any opinions on either? I am guessing if I go Squier I may need to change out pickups and wiring?
I've got the Fender 72 Deluxe one from about 5yrs back, made in Mexico, was £430 used.

Great guitar, pickups are nothing like the originals but aren't as bad as many say. I didn't feel the urgent need to replace them but I'll probably put some Lollar Regals in it at some point.

Eighteen-volt flanger pedals. Can be 9V if it sounds like an 18V.

Thinking of going with an MXR M117 or an Electric Mistress, but don't know whether to go vintage, or current reissue, or current-run variant (e.g. EVH MXR flanger).
Also curious about which Ibanez/Maxon flangers would be comparable.

Catalinbread Zero Point looks like a great pedal, but not for this.

I have a vintage MXR M117, an MXR M168 Commande Series, and a reissue A/DA. I recently bought a cheap ($80) MIJ Boss BF-2 (the one with the oddball knobs) that was already modded to use a regular 9-volt instead of the 12-volt ACA and it sounds just as good as the others for the majority of flanger sounds (not over the top pitch bending). I've overlooked this pedal for too long, but it sounds great. If I had to fault it, it does boost signal a little. You might consider getting one of these and calling it a day. If you do get an unmodded one, it needs 12 volt power from an adapter or Pedal Power 2+ (or similar).

If you want over the top flanging, consider the Ibanez SF10 Swell Flanger. Will go super slow and detune pretty radically at extreme settings.

Nothing I've mentioned does through zero flanging if that's what you're after.

Like ... i know it's gonna be kinda shit, there's no way it couldnt be. But if you were a person like me that likes messing with gear and wouldnt mind fretwork, replacing parts, etc.....would it be too shit or could it be cool?
If it were a P bass or a jazz, I would say go for it. Even kinda fucked, someone with the time and patience would be able to make that work. Starting out with something like this, a semi-hollow bass, it seems like the margin of fucked up could be quite high. Is the body gonna cave under that degree of sustained string tension? Is it gonna stay in one piece or are the seems going to open up? If those things happen, the body is going to be pretty much trash and you won't be left with a hell of a lot. Just my two cents though. It does look rad.
