Garth- Yes, just a router my dad bought at a garage sale in the 70's, and a set of bits I got for xmas 20+ years ago. Requires patience and care, but it works. I spent a long while working as a machinist, so there might be some knowledge still kicking around that is helping this process.

Only using light cutting fluid while drilling- but lots of beeswax while routing/cutting.

I had lots of shit I had to do today, so got less time than I wanted- but got the body channeled out to fit the receiver. I guess this is the first real mock up.

Receiver is 5lbs 9oz currently- haven't weighed it with the body, but this is one of those super light shitty import teles- I still need to cut out the pickup holes, drill for the tuners, add a v-notch or otherwise weight relieve the headstock, and of course remove a mountain of material to shape the back of the neck. No ETA on a duke, but as I go I am learning so much about correct processes and orders of operation that I ought to be able to make these very quickly for not much money.

Today I had very little time, so I just cleaned up the neck channel a bit, sanded the body route and started on neck shaping. Figuring out a more time-effective way for shaping is really the only road-block at this point. I don't have access to a cnc or mechanical pattern-following mill.

Progress report: finalized both the headstock and the neck shaping. Was able to get the neck HB cutout roughed in. I am waiting for an adapter ring to finalize placement of the bridge pickup.

Current weight 4lbs 11oz

Next few steps: Paint interior of body, radius fretboard, drill/tap neck attachment.
