Big influence on Joy Division and the Misfits too, if that matters to anyone.

Morrison was a wanker. Still they were doing something bold and new.

I mean, come on. Donovan was a contemporary of The Doors. Are you seriously going to argue that The Doors are worse than the guy responsible for “Sunshine Superman” and “Mellow Yellow”?
I like Donovan too, but the Doors were solid as fuck, what a debut, and a huge influence on tons of good bands including quite vocally, the Stooges. I wont be taking the stand for RHCP.

Big infuence on Ian McCullough/Echo & the Bunnymen, too.

Yeah Morrison might have been kinda douchey and an asshole, but no more so than Kiedis. I don't expect rock stars to be well behaved.

Well, it's entirely possible that they were a worse band.

And Season of the Witch is better than anything by Reef or Kula Shaker or Primal Scream or Nickelback or a hundred other bands I could name

They were absolutely worse than Donovan. They were worse than any other band in the 60's. Absolute shit music with a terrible singer who wrote some of the worst lyrics ever. If I'm out to dinner and hear shit music like Eric Clapton, I can just tune it out. The doors are so aggressively bad that I can't even do that. I just sit cursing the stupid singer and shit keyboard player until the song is thankfully over. They're like a comic parody of a 60's band.

I think there’s some overreaction to the Doors because we all probably knew a Jim Morrison Guy in high school. You remember this guy. He’s like a Henry Rollins Guy, but he does drugs.

Now, I won’t say that Morrison wrote good lyrics, but he wasn’t a bad singer. That organ does sound like shit though. The later transistor organs could sound pretty good, especially with effects or in a busy mix. Can wouldn’t be Can without the Farfisa. The Doors organ, in contrast, is really bad sounding and is way up front at all times.

RHCP are probably the worst radio rock band. Hard to think of one worse.
