I mean I know they use PVC and bad chemicals, it's plastic after all. Seems to me that there are better targets for climate activism than records. I've spent a lot of time at garbage dumps many times and never seen a single record.

Doubtless there are better targets, but we've left it late enough that it's not really a luxury to pick and choose.

Yes, I read that a while ago, and reached my free monthly Guardian reading limit already. It's hard to find, and maybe it's in the Guardian article, but am curious what percentage of PVC produced is used to make vinyl records. Anyone have an idea? The majority of PVC appears to be used in construction and packaging, healthcare, footwear, automotive, electrical. "Other uses" seems to be around 3% of the total used based on chartsandgraphs I can find.

I could probably find you a copy on CD if that would work instead

Yes, manufacturing and disposing of PVC is bad for the environment.

So is the manufacturing, using, and disposing of electronics (necessary for digital music), a lot of which (computers, phones, etc.) have a useful shelf life of just a few years.

And there are studies showing that streaming is now worse as far as emissions than all other ways to consume music:

Looks like there's research being done on manufacturing records with more environmentally-friendly materials. I support this:

Anyway, as far as mid-life crisis resolvers go, I believe my relatively modest vinyl record hobby is significantly less bad for the environment than my neighbor's new Ford Mustang GT Convertible, and the records will last a lot longer, too.

There's a VG CD copy on Discogs for $2.

Appreciate it, but also got it on CD, along with the first two.

I must say that half of my stuff is Cd's; But some specific records I like to compare cd and Vinyl versions to find out if I'm missing something. Sometimes cd is the better option, sometimes vinyl is... sometimes I don't hear any difference at all .

Bought TJL's Liar reedition in 2009, didn't sound better to my ears than my old cd. So I didn't try Head or Goat.

But in the case of that Dis record I've always thought the vinyl version sounded "better" to my ears.

Dischord could repress tons of stuff, apart from the Fugazi and Lungfish.

Fugazi really should consider 2xLP repressings because 20+ minute album sides are kind of a bummer.
I think most of their records run pretty much 'tween 35-45 min. long so pressing a good sounding record shouldn't be a problem. The Argument is the only one I have on Vinyl and it doesnt sound inferior to the cd.

Good sounding 20+ min perside do exist. I guess mastering and pressing must be done carefully to achieve that, but it is possible.

Like that polish (?) reissue of Distorted Pony's "Instant winner"; that must run 25 min per side or even more and it sounds ridiculously good. I can compare to the original cd, it just blows it away.
