Wore out the grooves on this one, I did. Starts pretty tame for Squarepusher, but the lounge/jazz melody morphs into knotted and gnarled dnb. Blew my head off when I first heard it. The last movement is just bonkers.

Live dub and electronics from Chicago's Frontier. Mike Tsoulos is a beast on the drums. Closest approximation to executing non-programmed drums I've ever heard. Visceral and thrilling shows. Live, loud, and blinding.
Not purist/doesn't count, but I absolutely adore Pizzicato Five and this 70's lounge take on dnb in particular. Doesn't kick in til much later, but it's cute and well-executed. Super cute.

6I bought “Jungle Hits Vol. 1” this year, wanting to hear something of what I heard on late night radio in the mid-nineties, and it has not disappointed.
What was sold soon after as “intelligent drum and bass” underwhelmed me, a patronising, AOR version of the potent stuff. Goldie’s “Timeless” seemed overlong, pretentious and tame, and I hated what I heard of the Roni Size album, dismissed it as cocktail lounge music. I was snottier then, obviously.

8I am glad! I ought to return to the d’n’b albums, as my tastes were narrow then, and my beliefs included the conviction that friends would finally like Big Black if only they heard those records more times at louder volumes.
