The Quiet Girl (2022). One of those where you wonder why it was adopted from its source. Nicely made, just falls all wrong as a film.

I watched one movie last year (the recent Matrix). I watched more than a hundred the previous year, and as many the year before that. Crazy.

The Fabelmans. Pure Spielberg, in the best way.

Minor Spielberg, IMO. First half was boring with the whole utopian-family-kid-with-dreams kind of way. Got better in the second half. Ultimately enjoyed it.

We just watched The Menu. It has its moments and good performances, but leans pretty hard on unsubtle social commentary.

It was predictable & heavy handed but enjoyable. Hard to not like Anna Taylor-Joy in basically anything. Foodie dude's bullshit lambchop definitely got some big laughs.

I loved everything about the menu, definitely in my top 5 of 22

Criterion Channel just posted three of Jerzy Skolimowski's films in honor of his recently released EO (still need to see that).

After first reading about it 20+ years ago I finally saw DEEP END and it was a great as I could possibly have hoped for. If you described all the individual bits it doesn't seem like it would be that great, but it all comes together in a really fantastic way.

Real long scene set to most of (the) Can's "Mother Sky", great to finally hear that in context!

Definitely gonna watch the other two films in the series asap!

It was OK, and was indeed heavy-handed and not in a good way. Saying many of the same things, and also with a heavy hand, Triangle of Sadness did it much better and with more humor.

This movie sucked. I like the premise and find the culture ridiculous, but it just missed the mark for me on almost every level. You know what other movie sucked that everyone seems to be into? Glass Onion. Sadly, I watched both movies two nights in a row.

I wish someone would do an edit of the movie inserting Foghorn Leghorn's image over Daniel Craig. Maybe I'd find it more amusing.
