Where do you stand on this sudden outrage over gas stoves/ranges and their impact on indoor air quality?

Setting fire to things is fun. That's how I judge.

As far as having it in the house, file me in the “old man yelling at cloud”, “we tumbled around in the back of my dad’s pickup truck when we were kids” group here. Not crap.

I am a little more concerned about environmental aspects as there are cleaner options than burning fossil fuels, but if your “cleaner” electric stove is ultimately powered by a coal-based power plant, I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes. All electric/renewable should be the future, though.

Never mind that the Cook's folks are going to put a hit out on somebody.

I'll relent when forced, but until then, I had my kitchen specifically re-plumbed for a gas stove for a goddamn reason. Not Crap.

That gas furnace that’s heating your home is burning a crap ton more gas!!

I'd guess it's probably using a similar(potentially greater...) amount of the electric that is coming from fairly dirty plants...

Not crap with waffles based on the latest reports.

I will say that the electric options have come a long way. I've stayed in a few rentals that have had newer electrics, and even though my wife and I are somewhat serious cooks, we've been surprisingly fine with them. In the old days electric ranges were just dogshit for trying to cook proteins with any precision. These days most of the time I cook meats outside. Our gas range and oven are constantly in use, and we love it for the temperature control.

Would choose gas over anything else.

I laughed when I first heard about this, filing it under Y2K type terror, but more fringe.

Now it's spread like wildfire and unavoidable.
I'm not about to do my own research about this, but I find it confounding that in the past 200 years since gas stoves have been sold UL or similar laboratories have not found anything to be worried about. Now all of a sudden it's a danger. Compare it to asbestos, which took about 20 years to discover toxicity after the industrialized use kicked off. And this was with 19th century science. If there IS a problem here, modern science can hang their heads in shame.

That said, I prefer my induction range for most things, especially the ease in cleaning.
