Any Schafkopf players here?

I have a German colleague who's going to teach me Schafkopf strategy. So, I've purchased some Bavarian decks, learned the rules and have been playing some games on a German app for iOS.

Being from Wisconsin, I knew Sheepshead players over the years, including some friends, but never got into the game very deep myself.

I'm hoping that picking up Schafkopf, perhaps I bother to learn the Sheepshead variant as well. Bierkopf also looks interesting. Popular in Franconia and simplified to presumably go better with drinking.
