Once the assault weapon ban ended the NRA's old strategy of being a sportsman's organization was replaced by more and more openly endorsing paramilitary behavior. I too grew up in a rural area where everyone had guns, including my dad, and like, across the board the narrative for gun rights was hunting and home protection. You wanted to play weekend warrior, you joined the national guard.

Yes. And many of the NRAs most devoted supporters these days are essentially stockpiling for Waco type scenarios. Scary stuff. Trump spoke at Waco recently as a sort of tip of the cap.

So, stop wishing they'd all give up their guns and figure out how you're going to cope with it. They're not going away.
This is true but honestly these Freed'm types don't make up all mass shooters. More often they seem to be bitter low-level employees or hopeless kids with histories of disputes or mental health episodes: stuff even mild background checks and other more strict measures would catch. (unless you think a teenager or doughy office worker is capable of hunting down a black market machine gun..)

.....

As far as fun stuff goes (targets, objects) a bow & arrow is way more appealing to me.

Red flag laws have bipartisan support and are a great place to start.

OK, I'll feed the troll again.

First off, if unprofessional diagnoses of autism are going to be thrown around, I don't think too many habitues this forum will emerge untouched.

Second, have you considered how in the countries where you can't have a gun, or you can't have a gun that holds more than a bullet or two, you get a mentally ill person doing a stabbing once every few years instead of a shooting every two weeks?
krakabash is not me. i am sean. this is my only account. i've been here 19 years and any mod could have told you that if you asked but now you look stupid. i'm sure kraka is enjoying the remembrance, wherever he is.
second, i was not trolling or making a medical diagnosis. we all know mental illness is a spectrum. my point was that no rational man shoots 3 unarmed teens UNPROVOKED. something else is going on there. maybe a red flag was rasied, but someone missed it. we will find out at trial.

since you brought it up, here are my rules.
if i quote the doors or the pumpkins, i am trolling.
if i quote fugazi or bob dylan, i am not.

Good for you.

I submit that the two crises of poor mental health care and proliferation of guns are not going to be solved by just taking the guns of autistic people away.

Very true. The roots of the mental health (and spiritual) crisis in this country go very deep. Band aids are helpful from time to time though.
