I imagine at some point as a practicality we will all start assuming that this is probably the last thing we gotta mail to some asshole.enframed wrote: Fri Dec 08, 2023 1:25 pm Seems every time I go to the post office some old person is there for a single stamp.

1722Took my van in for a smog today. Passed the emissions test beautifully. But, it has the wrong catalytic converter on it, so it failed the visual test. Fuxache California Air Resources Board/Bureau of Automotive Repair. The emissions are fine, isn't that what it's all fucking about? $1700 for the correct catalytic converter. The shop that installed the wrong converter is out of business.
FUCK!

1726The email copied below that I received today is a singular highlight of my academic career. I am lost for words.
“Hi Dr Sequoiah-Grayson,
I hope you're having a lovely week, and gearing up for the holidays.
You don't really know me, but when I was in year 11 I attended one of your workshops on logical fallacies. I fell in love with logic at that workshop and since then, I've fallen in love with philosophy. I'm now pursuing a degree in it.
I'm currently at the Sydney airport working on an epistemology essay with papers scattered all over my table when a man next to me struck up a conversation about a tall philosophy professor with curly dark hair that he had once met in hospital. He said that those five or so hours were bearable because of his conversation with you, and how he often thinks about it. He said that he tried to read the paper you gave him and couldn't quite grasp it, but he's grateful for the gesture.
I told him about the tall, dark curly haired philosophy professor who introduced me to philosophy and inspired me to pursue my degree. We pieced two and two together to figure out that we were both talking about you.
Anyway, I'm writing this email as a little reminder that you have a significant impact on the people around you, whether or not you remember us or realise it. In his case, you made a night in hospital memorable for great conversation, in mine, you've changed the trajectory of my studies, and everything that comes from that.
Merry Christmas, Dr Sequoiah-Grayson! And I hope you have a wonderful new year.

1729Just received notification that on Tuesday I was exposed to COVID. Can't test myself until Sunday at the earliest. Had a party, show, and club plans for the weekend that are now cancelled. Was going to get boosted for the 5th time this upcoming Tuesday, but a day late and a dollar short or some shit.
Just a wonderful 21st Century we've been having. Absolutely top notch.
