If I were to add a functional wiggle bar to that guitar I'd maybe go with a les-trem style thing?
The vibrola does look cool, but I've never heard anyone say a positive thing about them. A guy I play with put one on his SG recently and I don't recall it adding any amazingness to the equation other than making the already-often-out-of-tune sg go out of tune even more often.

5321972 Vistalite "shell pack" consisting of some slightly odd sizes: 10" & 14" concert toms, 18" floor tom, 24" kick all for $700 (possibly could talk him down as the listing said best offer).
Thing is, I already have a full kit, including an 18" floor tom that (and that floor tom (or the 12" tom really) just isn't getting used). I'm mostly interested in the 24" kick instead of the 22" kick I've been using for like 10 years. I was thinking about cutting a bearing edge on those toms and try doing 14" rack/18" floor or just selling them off individually.
I don't need this. Is a 24" kick really that awesome? TMOOI.

Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
533If you wanted to get super dumb, use the 24" kick and convert the other three drums into a bop kit. 10" rack, 14" floor, 18" kick.
Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
534I'm sure some on here have had different experiences, but to me larger kicks seldom sound better and can actually sound worse. My best explanation for this counterintuitive phenomenon is three fold:
1. They are more difficult to tune. Any drummer has experienced getting a rack tom squared away and then taking two or three times as long to get tuned up.
2. The increased circumference of the drum places the beater of a standard kick pedal farther from the center.
3. The bigger the drum, the lower the fundamental frequency. Which, yeah, that's kind of the whole point right? But a lower frequency requires more energy to produce. It's also trickier in terms of room modes.
I've seen towering kick drums that weirdly sounded less bassy. Now anyone here might tell me I'm full of shit, but you came here to be talked out of it and that's the best I've got.

535For the judges: a guitar has come up for sale that is one serial number up from a guitar I own. Same make and model, same color—basically its sibling.
This second guitar has a few minor mods, but still is a match. I don’t need another guitar, but it’s hard to resist owning guitars consecutively numbered.
WWTMOOID?

536Not as awesome as getting another 22” kick and a double bass drum pedal.
Unless you replace the other kit entirely with the vista kit, it doesn’t make sense. Can you borrow or rent a 24” kick to see if you even like one first? May be a waste of $$ otherwise.

537Yeah I think I neglected to mention that my main kit is the same color (clear) Vistalite kit. I posted the full refurb process here but it was probably lost.jirbling rake wrote: Unless you replace the other kit entirely with the vista kit, it doesn’t make sense.
Here's my existing kit w/ photo taken immediately after the cleanup:
I would be swapping the 22" out for the new-to-me 24" if I dig it.
I think mostly I'm just wanting to try out the 24" with the 13" rack and 16" floor tom instead of the 22" and sell the one I like the least.
Honestly I think the deal breaker for me is going to be that I am a rack-tom-on-a-snare-stand guy and I'm not going to love having it push it further to the outside to get it low enough that I can live with it.
As far as a bop kit goes, I have that pretty well-covered as I have 2 old Oaklawn Camco kits (although the tuxedo one still needs full refurb).
I had a 24" kick kit (actually it was 2 of them, full double-kick set w/ concert toms, so ridiculous) at one point...
Here's a photo of the whole thing mostly boxed up w/ the Camco kit to the right:

538A guy I know is selling an OG Shure SM7 for $500. Good condition
Looks like an ok price for a cash deal… should I? I need another mic right now like I need another hole in my head but it’d be cool to have for a while and pass on later.

Re: Gear talk: TALK ME OUT OF IT
539As a TMOOI rebuttal: you have no room for that other kit. You have one that's already clear, so getting a kit that's largely the same makes no sense, no matter what you want to try out.Garth wrote:Yeah I think I neglected to mention that my main kit is the same color (clear) Vistalite kit. As a JMP (Justify My Purchase) answer: matches what you have, and sounds like a good price for what you want to do. You could also make a gigantic clear kit for fun sometimes.

540You guys good w/ me changing the title of this thread to include JMP? Or should it be a separate thread?jirbling rake wrote: JMP (Justify My Purchase)
