A prs (I know) 277 baritone.

Or an Epiphone Les Paul Custom sitting in the shop down the road.

I will be using whichever one I purchase for live shows so I can stop being anxious about my EGC.

The prs looks doofy as a prs does but it sounds awesome, somebody in another band around here uses one. I have never played this or any other prs model.

The Les Paul is the control layout I prefer and sounds like a true rocker. I've played this one and like it just fine. Real growly type of Thin Lizzy vibes.

My options are limited as a lefty and these both seem like fine choices. I'm leaning towards the baritone because that's about where I tune anyway. The Les Paul will need some work to get it set up for low tuning.

Talk me out of one or both .

Ah, certainly.

I'm the only stringed instrument in a 2 piece. I tune low. Either guitar will be tuned to C standard.

I like the idea of lighter strings on a baritone and tuning a half step higher than general convention on that instrument.

I've had Les Paul style guitars and while they certainly can be set up that low (Pike, Spiers), I'm not jazzed about getting it into my hands and then right back out of my hands for a week or so.

You should probably disregard this - typical righty, spoiled for choice in relation to my left-handed brothers and sisters. Also I'm straight-up racist about PRS's. Just don't. I'm sure they're great to play, great build quality, tonality, etc, I wouldn't know. I've never played one. Because it's a PRS.

I'm racist about PRS too. Owned one briefly back in the 90s, I didn't get on with it at all, traded it for my strat.

But fuck it, they're perfectly good guitars, if it plays nice and you like it, get it. If you hate a flame maple top you can always just strip it and paint it black.

OTOH in favor of the Gibson, I have a couple guitars in B standard (I feel djenty every now and again) and it was NBD to get them set up...switched to 12s from 10s, just a little truss rod adjustment and fix the intonation, simple stuff, didn't need to go to my guy.

I just scanned the PRS site for a possibly acceptable model (for my tastes) and at the end of the day even the most acceptable looking one still has those damn bird inlays.

And yes. For years I had a standard scale telecaster set up for C# standard (Federation X, Sleater Kinney) and just used a set of heavy strings, 12-56 i think. It was great and the setup was easy enough that one could possibly do it themselves without special tools.
