I am not sentimental about gear at all and I rarely hang on to stuff. I am always mixin' and matching, wheeling and dealing. I am REALLY trying to settle down about that.
I don't think any of the main gear I have now I have had longer than 5 years. The only think I have held onto is a my first guitar cab (an 80s Marshall 4x12) bought in the early 90s.

I've tried to make my rb800 work for me for years. Harsh highs and anemic low end. Got an rb400 for more bottom but not much better. My 'baked in mid scoop' (or whatever it is) early 2000s solid state Fender Bassman just sounds so much better, my bandmate just rolls his eyes whenever I use a GK and waits for me to switch back to the Fender.

Flangers fucking rule especially with a dark fuzz and the slowest speeds. I also will put a flanger on a hi hat mic. It's the only reason to mic a hi hat.

I have played a lot of aluminum necked and bodied guitars and every single one leaves me perplexed. I just do not like them. Also every Bean body shape is hideous to me. They look like something a dude really into Santana would like. Did Santana play beans? I fucking hate Santana.

That Jack white amp is every single thing I've ever wanted from a fender style amp. Too bad it's so ugly and expensive.

The Jack White amp reminded me that "signature" gear is generally lame. I don't want some other person's name emblazoned on my stuff. It's also painfully obvious when you're using it on stage and telegraphing to everybody that you're a fanboy. The best signature gear is the sleeper stuff that looks normal but maybe has a different configuration.

Anything less than 11's feels really flimsy to me. Like strumming a spiderweb. But this is mainly down to being a large person, with huge cumbersome fingers, horrible technique and ability, and an element of bass playing, rather than tone-chasing.

Agree with all this and hate that it's all fucking expensive. Before I put my wife to sleep the other night rambling about cool tremolo, I said that's why I loved what Mascis did with his jazzmaster was put it in the hands of normal ass regular people who save up to buy their gear. And unless you were a fanboy, the only identifier was his sig on the back of the headstock.

Maybe I have mush ears but I've never tried/heard Yamaha gear (drums, amps, acoustic & electric guitars, pianos) that didn't sound at least pretty good, even when it had no right to.
